Regarding the precautions for pregnant women to take when testing glucose tolerance, it is recommended that you understand the following content.

Glucose tolerance test for pregnant women is one of the must-check items for checking diabetes in pregnant women. There are some things we need to pay attention to before the inspection.

Glucose tolerance is usually tested by blood sampling during pregnancy at 24-28 weeks. The specific inspection method for sugar screening is: fasting for 12 hours before screening, fasting for 12 hours before the test, and the following process is as follows:

1. Draw blood once on an empty stomach;

2. Dissolve 75g of glucose powder in 300ml of water and drink it within 5 minutes. Start timing from the first sip and draw blood once every hour, about 5ml;

3. Draw again after another hour, also 5 ml. The most important thing is: you must wait more than an hour after drinking the sugar water before drawing blood!

Things to note before the inspection:

1. The day before the sugar screening or glucose tolerance test, it is best to eat light vegetarian food and eat less rice. Make stir-fried bitter melon to lower blood sugar.

2. Do not drink sweet drinks or eat too sweet food in the morning. The glucose tolerance test requires fasting for 8 hours and the fasting blood sugar test must be completed before 10 am. If you are thirsty, you can drink 1 to 2 sips of water to relieve it.

3. The speed at which you drink sugar water will affect the glucose screening and glucose tolerance tests. Doctors generally require expectant mothers to finish drinking it within 1 minute. And the sugar water is thoroughly stirred in advance to ensure that the expectant mother fully consumes the required amount of sugar.

4. It is best to walk more after drinking, so that the energy will be consumed within an hour, which will help lower blood sugar concentration.

5. Master the time for blood drawing. Draw blood one hour after finishing drinking. If you start drinking at 7:10 and finish at 7:20, you have to draw blood again at 8:20.

Pregnant women should pay attention to the precautions mentioned above when undergoing glucose tolerance tests, but they don't need to be too nervous. Doctors will generally take the average of multiple tests to ensure the accuracy of the value, so relax.
