The harm of having an IUD on your body

The practice of having an IUD inserted can effectively prevent contraception, but it will bring many side effects. It is recommended that everyone should be aware of the precautions and care methods after the IUD is inserted to avoid vaginal bleeding and uterine mucosal rupture. There are many disadvantages of having an IUD, such as too intense sexual intercourse or having sex after having an IUD inserted, which may cause bleeding, or the IUD may pierce the uterine mucosa, which can easily cause an ectopic pregnancy.

1. Vaginal bleeding: This is the main reason why women request to have their IUD removed, and it is mainly manifested as prolonged menstruation, continuous vaginal bleeding, and increased menstrual flow. For most people, the symptoms will be more obvious when they first have the IUD inserted, and will be alleviated later. This is mainly because the placement of the IUD stimulates the endometrium and affects local coagulation disorders.

2. Body aches: Placing an IUD in the uterus is itself a "foreign body", especially when the ring is too large or positioned low. The uterus contracts in order to expel the "foreign body", causing uterine contractions and pain, which often manifests as lower abdominal pain and back pain.

3. Uterine perforation: The mechanism by which IUD insertion causes uterine perforation is not clear. It is generally believed that it may be caused by the size of the uterus or improper operation by the doctor. In addition, when women exercise vigorously, the IUD in their body may cause damage to the uterus due to its sharp shape and physical inertia. Unexplained uterine contractions may also squeeze the IUD and cause uterine perforation.

4. Cause ectopic pregnancy; this situation means that after the IUD is inserted, the embryo implants directly in the fallopian tube, which is what we refer to as ectopic pregnancy. So for women, IUD insertion can prevent normal pregnancy in the uterus, but it cannot avoid the possibility of ectopic pregnancy.

5. Damage to other organs: In rare cases, the intrauterine contraceptive device may cause uterine perforation and enter the abdominal cavity, thus causing the device to become dislocated. The IUD may be ectopically located in the bladder, pelvis, or mesentery.

6. Endometrial fibrosis: Intrauterine contraceptive devices are essentially foreign bodies in the human body. It is common medical knowledge that foreign bodies in the human body can cause mechanical damage to local tissues, chronic inflammation, and fibrosis. Ten to twelve years after IUD insertion, endometrial fibrosis will occur.

When it comes to contraception, condoms and drugs are the first choice abroad, while in China the first choice is intrauterine device (IUD). Although side effects are rare, there are 300 million women of childbearing age in China. Even if it is a 1% side effect, it means 3 million painful lives. Having an IUD inserted is not like having a tooth extracted. For many older mothers, removing an IUD is more like having a serious illness and is very painful.

IUD insertion is not suitable for all women. Women with gynecological inflammation, uterine diseases, and systemic diseases are not suitable for wearing IUDs. If an IUD is forced into place, the condition will worsen. Whether or not women should have an IUD should be determined based on their own circumstances. If you decide to have an IUD, you must also get a good check-up under the doctor's advice before making a decision.
