Increased vaginal discharge during early menopause

Increased vaginal discharge during early menopause

Women will face the arrival of menopause after the age of 50. Great changes will occur at this time. Some people will be emotionally unstable for a long period of time. Their families should be understanding and tolerant. Women themselves should also pay attention to the changes that occur in the early stages of menopause. The increase in vaginal discharge in the early stages of menopause is mostly normal, which is related to the secretion of estrogen. However, we should also pay attention to the situation of vaginitis in the elderly and the increase of leucorrhea.

Causes of increased vaginal discharge after menopause

1. Estrogen causes

Increased vaginal discharge after menopause is often a signal given by estrogen in the body, but sometimes ovarian tumors and adrenal tumors can also secrete hormones, so you should not be careless.

2. Senile vaginitis

After menopause, the vagina's resistance decreases, making it more susceptible to infection with bacteria, leading to senile vaginitis, which often causes vulvar itching, pain, and burning sensations.

3. Health care products

Many middle-aged and elderly people have the habit of taking health supplements. These medicines contain hormone components, which can also cause an increase in leucorrhea after menopause.

4. Tumor

Increased and watery vaginal discharge, yellow vaginal discharge, bloody vaginal discharge, etc. after menopause may be caused by gynecological tumors.

Gynecological examination for menopause and increased leucorrhea can directly understand the condition of the vagina and cervix. If necessary, scraping, suction and cervical biopsy can be performed to assist in diagnosis.

Routine examination of leucorrhea

1. pH value: The normal pH value is around 4.5. The vagina is weakly acidic, which is the self-cleaning function of the vagina and can prevent the reproduction of pathogenic bacteria. If you suffer from trichomoniasis or bacterial vaginosis, the pH value will rise and may be greater than 5 to 6.

2. Vaginal cleanliness: It is divided into four degrees, degrees I to II are normal, degrees III to IV are abnormal leucorrhea, indicating vaginal inflammation.

3. Fungi and Trichomonas: After the leucorrhea is processed, the presence of Trichomonas or fungi can be detected under a microscope. If Trichomonas or fungi are present, they will be indicated by +. This symbol only means that you have been infected with Trichomonas or fungus, and does not indicate the severity of the infection.

4. Amine test: a method for checking bacterial vaginosis. The diagnosis is made by a positive reaction to the amine test in the vaginal discharge.

5. Clue cells: a method for checking bacterial vaginosis. Many bacteria gather around the vaginal epithelial cells, making their edges blurred. These are clue cells, the most sensitive and specific sign of bacterial vaginosis.

How to prevent increased leucorrhea after menopause

① Regular check-ups: Even if you do not feel any discomfort, you should still have regular check-ups and a comprehensive gynecological examination at least once a year.

② Seek medical treatment promptly: No matter what the cause of increased vaginal discharge or other discomfort, you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment immediately.

③ Be sure to take the medication under the guidance of a doctor: if the medication is not suitable for your condition, it may aggravate the condition.

④ Wear less tight pants: Wear less tight pants (such as jeans); especially do not wear tight nylon underwear, it is best to choose cotton underwear.

⑤ Not using sanitary pads on weekdays: Some female friends are worried that leucorrhea will stain their underwear or are too lazy to wash their underwear, so they always use sanitary pads on weekdays. This practice is not advisable as it can easily breed a large number of bacteria. Therefore, try not to use sanitary pads when you are not menstruating. Wash the vulva with clean water and change underwear every night (it is best not to use various liquid medicines to clean the vagina. Doing so will destroy the internal environment of the vagina and cause vaginitis).

⑥ Enhance immunity: Exercise regularly to strengthen your physical fitness; ensure adequate sleep; eat more foods rich in vitamins; learn to regulate your emotions, as immunity will be enhanced when you are in a good mood.

With the popularization of scientific knowledge, many elderly people also use lubricants locally during their sexual life. The drugs can cause local mucosal hyperplasia and increase leucorrhea after menopause. It is important to have a gynecological examination to confirm whether there is a tumor.
