When should I check my glucose tolerance during pregnancy?

There are many examination items for pregnant women during pregnancy. If the pregnant woman's sugar screening is normal, then there is no need to do another glucose tolerance test. If you really need to check, you must prepare in advance. You can have this examination between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy. You should be on an empty stomach before the examination, and then drink sugar 1 to 2 hours before the examination. Let's take a look at this aspect.

When should I check my glucose tolerance during pregnancy?

Pregnant women have many examinations during pregnancy. During each prenatal checkup, the doctor will tell you what examinations are included. Among them, the gestational glucose tolerance test is probably not known by many pregnant women what it is and what the role of this glucose tolerance test is. More pregnant women are probably afraid of having a useless examination. Let us learn about it below.

At present, hospitals in China generally use the industry standard of the Ministry of Health for the diagnosis of gestational diabetes, that is, expectant mothers with normal fasting blood sugar in the early pregnancy are recommended to undergo a formal 75g glucose tolerance test at 24-28 weeks of pregnancy to monitor blood sugar levels on an empty stomach and 1 hour and 2 hours after drinking sugar. If any one of the three items reaches or exceeds the limit value, that is, fasting blood sugar and blood sugar 1 hour and 2 hours after taking sugar are 5.1mmol/L, 10.0mmol/L, and 8.5mmol/L respectively, gestational diabetes can be diagnosed.

Is it necessary to do glucose tolerance?

For expectant mothers with normal glucose screening results, there is no need to do a glucose tolerance test. However, for expectant mothers with positive glucose screening results, a glucose tolerance test should be performed to confirm whether they have gestational diabetes.

Gestational diabetes refers to the phenomenon of high blood sugar during pregnancy when the mother does not have diabetes before pregnancy. This disease will have a great adverse effect on the physical health of the expectant mother and the normal development of the fetus, and the probability of premature rupture of membranes, premature birth, and macrosomia will be significantly increased.

After the introduction of the above content, I believe that many pregnant women already have a certain understanding of glucose tolerance tests. At present, many pregnant women in our country are diagnosed with diabetes during pregnancy, which is the so-called gestational diabetes. This gestational diabetes has a greater impact on the fetus. If blood sugar cannot be controlled, the problem will be very serious. I hope pregnant women will pay attention to this issue.
