The role of chorionic gonadotropin during pregnancy

The role of chorionic gonadotropin during pregnancy

The main function of chorionic gonadotropin during pregnancy is to protect the fetus, especially in the early stages of pregnancy. If a pregnant woman has threatened miscarriage, the doctor will conduct a detailed examination and sometimes inject chorionic gonadotropin to ensure the good development of the fetus. In the early stages of pregnancy, if the care is not done properly, it will be an important cause of miscarriage. As a pregnant woman, in order to protect the fetus, you must strengthen good conditioning.

The role of chorionic gonadotropin during pregnancy

Human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone secreted by the placenta. It can also preserve the fetus after injection. There must be a reason why your doctor asks you to use this hormone. It can promote the aromatization of androgens and convert them into estrogens. It can also stimulate the formation of progesterone. Therefore, there is no need to inject progesterone. Its main side effect is the possible production of antibodies that suppress the function of pituitary gonadotropins.

Clinical effects of chorionic gonadotropin for injection

1. Diagnosis and treatment of cryptorchidism before puberty.

2. For male infertility caused by hypopituitarism, it can be used in combination with urogonadotropin. Those with long-term hypogonadotropinemia should also be treated with testosterone.

3. For female anovulatory infertility caused by pituitary gonadotropin deficiency, this product is often used in combination with urinary gonadotropin to promote ovulation after clomiphene treatment fails.

4. Used for in vitro fertilization to obtain multiple oocytes, it needs to be used in combination with urinary gonadotropin.

5. Treatment of luteal insufficiency in women.

6. Functional uterine bleeding, threatened abortion in early pregnancy, and habitual abortion.

Dosage

1. Adult dosage:

① For hypogonadism caused by insufficient male gonadotropin function, 1000-4000 units are injected intramuscularly, 2-3 times a week, for several weeks to several months. To stimulate spermatogenesis, treatment needs to last for 6 months or longer. If the sperm count is less than 5 million/ml, urinary gonadotropin should be used in combination for about 12 months.

② Ovulation induction. For female anovulatory infertility or in vitro fertilization, 5000-10000 units are injected intramuscularly once a day after the last dose of urogonadotropin or 5-7 days after the last dose of clomiphene. The treatment is continued for 3-6 cycles. If there is no effect, stop the drug.

③ For luteal insufficiency, inject 1500 units every other day from the day of ovulation on the 15th to 17th day of the menstrual period, and use it quickly for 5 times. Adjustments can be made based on the patient's response. After pregnancy, the original dose must be maintained until 7 to 10 weeks of gestation.

④ Functional uterine bleeding: 1000-3000 units intramuscular injection. For habitual abortion and threatened abortion, 1000 to 5000 units can be injected intramuscularly.

2. Dosage for children:

①Testicular function test in developmentally retarded patients. Intramuscular injection of 2000 units once a day for 3 consecutive days.

② Prepubertal cryptorchidism. Intramuscular injection of 1000-5000 units, 2-3 times a week. Stop using when good effects are seen. The total number of injections should not exceed 10.
