What are the side effects of long-term hyaluronic acid injections?

In modern society, women will do anything for the sake of beauty. For example, some women always feel that their appearance is not up to standard, so they take the risk of going abroad for plastic surgery. If the surgery is successful, it will be fine, but it fails, and they become neither human nor ghost. This kind of situation really exists and is truly a human tragedy. So the question is, what are the side effects of long-term injection of hyaluronic acid?

There are no serious side effects. If urticaria or itching occurs occasionally, the drug should be discontinued and treated appropriately. Sometimes there is pain, swelling, and obstruction of water flow, and occasionally there is edema, redness, heat, and a feeling of local pressure.

As we all know, it is because a substance called "hyaluronic acid" is excessively distributed in the skin of the Shar-Pei dog that causes it to have so many wrinkles. Excess hyaluronic acid is most likely caused by the overactivation of a gene called hyaluronan synthase 2. When the synthetase gene is overactivated, the human body will produce corresponding enzymes to break down and destroy the excess part, playing a certain "self-regulating" role. Hyaluronidase can dissolve away excess hyaluronic acid, thus eliminating side effects.

Additional information:

External skin care products need to "rely" on the permeability and absorption of the epidermis to enter the dermis or even subcutaneously to take effect. However, how to make the active ingredients of skin care products penetrate the epidermal barrier well has always been a headache for researchers. It has to be said that there is currently no good way to get hyaluronic acid into the "deep layers" simply by applying it.

The more mature method of introducing hyaluronic acid into the dermis or subcutaneous tissue is "injection beauty", which is to introduce hyaluronic acid into the dermis or subcutaneous tissue through a very fine needle. Different introduction amounts have different clinical effects.

When the injection amount is small, it can be used to fill fine wrinkles or scars on the skin, restoring the skin's smoothness and elasticity. When a large amount is injected, it can be used to reshape the appearance of a certain part, such as raising the bridge of the nose, repairing the nose tip, plumping the cheeks, plumping the lips, repairing the lip shape, modifying the chin, etc.

Although hyaluronic acid is used for filling purposes in clinical practice, the patients I have personally treated all said that after the injection of hyaluronic acid, it has some moisturizing effect and the skin becomes delicate and shiny. On the one hand, it may be that increasing the hyaluronic acid content in the dermis or subcutaneous tissue may increase the water transferred to the epidermis, but it is more likely that the injection of hyaluronic acid stimulates the dermis and increases the synthesis of collagen, making the skin delicate and shiny. (Editor’s comment: Isn’t it possible that the epidermis is “stretched” simply because of the injection of hyaluronic acid, making it appear delicate and shiny?)

Since hyaluronic acid is a component that exists naturally in the body, as long as qualified products are used in regular medical institutions, hyaluronic acid injections are relatively safe and the effects are immediate. However, the disadvantage of hyaluronic acid is that the human body will absorb it, so to maintain the effect, it must be injected again at regular intervals.
