How long after oxygen inhalation should fetal heart monitoring be performed?

Some girls may feel chest tightness and shortness of breath during pregnancy. They can go to the hospital for oxygen therapy. Oxygen inhalation is a good measure, not only for mothers, but also for ordinary people. It can relieve physical fatigue and make them more energetic. If a girl does fetal heart monitoring during pregnancy, she should do it after oxygen inhalation to ensure the authority of the results. So, how long after oxygen inhalation can other heart monitoring be performed?

1. Pregnant women need to breathe oxygen after fetal heart monitoring because the fetus is found to be suffering from hypoxia.

If oxygen therapy is not given in time, the fetus may suffer from growth retardation and reduced fetal movement due to lack of oxygen, causing permanent brain damage to the fetus, leading to mental retardation, infectious diseases, and even death in severe cases. Therefore, when fetal heart rate monitoring is not up to standard, pregnant women generally need oxygen to improve fetal intrauterine hypoxia.

2. Fetal heart rate monitoring to check fetal hypoxia mainly depends on changes in fetal heart rate.

When the fetal heart rate is monitored for 20 minutes, it beats between 120 and 160 times per minute, and there are at least two heart rate beats when the fetus is moving that are at least 15 times faster than when the fetus is inactive, each time for 15 seconds. This shows that the monitoring results are normal and the fetus is in good condition. On the contrary, if the fetal heart rate does not increase when the fetus moves, or there is no movement for 40 minutes, it means that the fetus may be suffering from hypoxia, and you should wait one hour before doing fetal heart monitoring again. If there is still no response, a uterine contraction stress test should be performed.

3. What are the symptoms of fetal hypoxia?

1. Changes in fetal movement

When an expectant mother finds that the fetus's fetal movement has changed, such as frequent fetal movements when it should be quiet, or a fetus that was originally very active suddenly becomes quiet, these may be signs of fetal hypoxia.

2. Abnormal fetal heart rate

Under normal circumstances, the fetal heart rate is regular, about 120-160 beats per minute. If the expectant mother finds that the fetal heart rate exceeds 160 beats/minute, this is an early symptom of fetal hypoxia. If the fetal heart rate is less than 120 beats/minute or even stops, it is a late sign of fetal hypoxia.

3. Fetal development stagnation

The development of the fetus during pregnancy has certain regularities, and measuring the height of the uterus can help understand the development of the fetus. Normally, the height of the uterus of a pregnant woman should increase by about 1 cm per week after 28 weeks of pregnancy. If a pregnant mother finds that her uterine height has not increased for two consecutive weeks, it means that the fetus is developing abnormally. It is very likely that the fetus has stagnates or died due to lack of oxygen in the uterus. Further examination should be done immediately.
