They should avoid eating spicy foods and do not drink strong tea or coffee during breastfeeding.

What to avoid during breastfeeding

1. Foods that hinder milk secretion

Such as meat: rabbit meat, squid, duck meat, pig heart, frog meat, etc. Vegetables: chili, pepper, raw garlic, fennel, leek, purslane, winter melon, cucumber, melon, bitter melon, malt, ginseng, etc. will inhibit milk secretion.

2. Overly stimulating food

After giving birth, it is suitable for mothers to eat light, less irritating or non-irritating foods, and avoid taking some highly irritating foods, such as chili peppers, tobacco, alcohol, coffee and spicy condiments.

(1) Alcohol: Excessive drinking during breastfeeding will hinder the normal milk secretion of women and affect uterine contraction. Alcohol will also interfere with the healthy growth of the baby through breast milk.

(2) Coffee: Drinking coffee can excite the central nervous system, stimulate the contraction of heart muscles, and affect the baby through breast milk. Breastfeeding women should stop drinking coffee.

(3) Seasonings that are too irritating: such as chili peppers, fennel, garlic, etc., can easily cause sores and difficulty in defecation for breastfeeding mothers, while babies will experience drooling, stomatitis and other discomforts. Therefore, it is not recommended to consume these.

3. High-fat, fried foods

These foods are not easy to digest and are high in calories. They are not conducive to postpartum recovery or ensuring breast milk quality, so they should be consumed in moderation.

4. Foods that may cause allergies

Some babies may have allergic symptoms. Breastfeeding mothers should pay more attention to whether their baby's skin has rashes, etc., and consider their own diet to find out the cause of their baby's skin allergies. Therefore, breastfeeding mothers should avoid eating foods that may cause allergies in their babies.

5. Cigarettes

Smoking while breastfeeding will cause the nicotine in cigarettes to quickly appear in the breast milk and be absorbed by the baby. Studies have shown that nicotine can damage the baby's respiratory tract. Therefore, for the health of the baby, breastfeeding mothers must quit smoking and prevent the harm of secondhand smoke to the baby.

6. Medication

Although some medicines taken by breastfeeding women will not have much effect on the baby, new mothers should consult relevant doctors before taking the medicine, or explain the breastfeeding situation to the doctor when going to the hospital for treatment, so that the doctor can prescribe appropriate medicine.
