It is very common for women to experience hip pain during pregnancy. Hip pain can actually be relieved by strengthening muscles through exercise. As women age during pregnancy, their weight will also increase, so hip pain is very likely to occur. Sometimes when walking or when the body posture changes, hip pain will occur. What is the cause of hip pain in pregnant women? 1. What exercises can strengthen the hip muscles? 1. Side leg lift exercise Stand behind a desk or chair with your legs slightly apart. Lift your legs out to the sides, making sure your legs and back are straight and your toes are pointing forward. Slowly lower your leg and switch to the other side. Repeat at least 10 to 15 times. This strengthens the muscles on the sides of your hips. 2. Hip flexion Stand behind or to the side of a desk or chair, slowly bend your left knee and move it toward your chest, making sure to stand straight without arching your back or waist. Hold it steady for a few seconds and then slowly lower it. Repeat the same movement with the other leg, 15 times on each side. Exercise can help relieve joint discomfort. 3. Hip extension exercise Stand 30 to 40 cm away from the table with your feet slightly apart. Lean forward at a 45-degree angle without bending your upper body. Hold the table and slowly extend your left leg backward without bending your knee, holding it for a few seconds. Slowly lower your left leg and then switch to the other leg. 15 reps on each side. 4. Kneel down and stretch your hips Get yourself on all fours and slowly lower your head toward the floor. Be sure to move slowly to avoid accidentally pulling a muscle and causing pain, or a sudden rush of blood to the head, causing dizziness or loss of balance. 5. Sit down and stretch Sit on the floor. Sit with your knees apart and feet together in butterfly position. Slowly bend forward until you feel a slight stretch in your hips. Hold this position for 5 seconds. Sit up straight and repeat about 20 times. 2. Causes of Hip Pain 1. The influence of hormones Relaxin is produced in large quantities during pregnancy, helping your joints and muscles relax to cope with the growing baby. But because of this hormone, your joints become more sensitive, so they are prone to pain. 2. Increased body weight As the fetus continues to grow, the weight of your entire body increases, which increases the pressure on the hip joints, causing pain around the pelvic area and sometimes affecting your movement. 3. Because of osteoporosis During pregnancy, your calcium will be absorbed by the fetus in large quantities. If you do not supplement enough calcium, it will lead to osteoporosis, your bones will not be strong enough, and you will be prone to pain and discomfort. 4. Round ligament pain The round ligament is located around the buttocks and groin. If you have round ligament pain, it may hurt when your baby moves or when your position changes. |
