What medicine should I take to delay my period?

Menstruation is a normal physiological reaction that occurs in the female body. However, sometimes some people use some methods to delay menstruation. Delaying menstruation has certain benefits for the human body, including contraception. If you want to delay menstruation, you can use some methods, including some drugs. So what drugs should you take to delay menstruation?

Oral contraceptives are one of the commonly used methods to delay menstruation. The birth control pill consists of a low dose of estrogen combined with a high dose of progestin. Since contraceptives contain a higher dose of progestin, taking the pill can maintain and prolong the secretion phase and prevent exfoliation, thus achieving the purpose of delaying menstruation.

Dosage: ① For those with regular menstruation, you can start taking it orally 3-5 days before menstruation, one tablet every night, and take it continuously until the end of the activity. Menstruation will come 3-5 days after stopping the medication.

② For those who are taking the medicine regularly, you can continue taking it after taking 22 tablets.

③ In the second half of the period, it is best to start taking oral contraceptives one week before the next menstrual period and take two tablets every day until three days before the date of your scheduled delayed menstruation. This can achieve the purpose of delaying menstruation.

But some women take the medicine for 2-3 months at a time or for several months at a time in order to reduce the frequency of menstruation. This is not advisable. Because the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and endometrium are not easy to recover after being excessively suppressed by drugs.

Progestin-only: Progestin-only therapy works by the same mechanism as birth control pills to delay menstruation.

How to take: There are many types of progestins, and the more commonly used one is oral progesterone. Generally take 2 tablets each time, 2-3 times a day. You can also inject progesterone 20 mg intramuscularly once a day, 2-3 days before the onset of menstruation until the desired period. Injectable medications are natural preparations with minimal gastrointestinal reactions, but injections are more troublesome to use. However, since pure progestin drugs do not contain estrogen, their effect in delaying menstruation is not as stable as that of birth control pills.
