Why does my period smell?

Why does my period smell?

Why does menstruation have a smell? As a girl, everyone wants to be clean, but there are times when you can't help yourself. For example, when you have your period, your body may have a fishy smell, or a stinky smell, or other very unusual smells. So why does menstruation have this smell? This is mainly because menstrual blood is mixed with blood, secretions from the endometrium and sebaceous glands, and sweat. If the odor is very strong during menstruation, in addition to the bloody smell of menstruation itself, it may be some gynecological inflammation, such as vaginitis. So what should we do? Let’s solve it together.

1. Reasons

1. Vaginitis

Vaginal inflammation is a problem that many women have encountered, and one of the reasons for the bad smell during menstruation is because of it. If not treated in time, women's body odor will persist or even get worse.

2. The smell of a mixture of liquids

Women all know that when they have their period, blood and fragments of the endometrium will flow out of their lower body, and these things will be absorbed by the sanitary napkin.

In addition, women will leave residues when they go to the toilet. If the weather is hot or the sanitary napkin is not changed in time, sweat will easily flow out of the lower body of women, which means that there is also sweat in the sanitary napkin.

3. Women with pelvic inflammatory disease will have a bad smell

There are many reasons why women may suffer from pelvic inflammation, such as surgical infection, lack of hygiene during menstruation, etc.

Pelvic inflammatory disease will not have any odor at the beginning, but as the inflammation worsens, purulent leucorrhea will flow out of the woman's lower body, which is why women have an odor.

2. Precautions

1. Pay attention to your attire

Many women, especially young women, like to wear tight clothes to highlight their figures. Even during their menstrual period, they often like to wrap themselves tightly without ventilation. In fact, doing so is like adding fuel to the fire, which will only increase sweat penetration and sweat odor. Therefore, during menstruation, you should use cotton underwear and wear loose clothes to ensure ventilation.

2. Change sanitary napkins frequently

Change sanitary napkins as often as possible, but no more than 4 hours at a time, to reduce the contact between your skin and wet sanitary napkins. When the menstrual blood volume is heavy, the number of times the sanitary napkin should be changed should be relatively increased.

3. Use special detergent to remove odor

When the temperature is high, bacteria in the private parts are easy to multiply, so you can use special cleanser or wet wipes to gently wipe it. However, it should not be used frequently, as the self-cleansing function of the private parts will be weakened. It can only be used when the smell is strong and before the end of menstruation.

4. Pay attention to hygiene

Some female friends are afraid to take a bath during their menstrual period in order to prevent menstrual infection. In fact, this is an incorrect idea.

During menstruation, women should pay more attention to bathing. If they do not bathe for more than two days, there will inevitably be an odor of menstrual blood. Of course, in the summer it may not be the smell of menstrual blood, it may be your own body odor.

5. Relax

Menstrual blood is a mixture of endometrium, blood and endometrial secretions, so it emits a unique smell different from ordinary blood. These phenomena do not necessarily mean that there is a disease.
