Do I need to take off my underwear for a chest X-ray?

Because women's bodies are special, they may encounter embarrassing things at times. For example, when going to the hospital for a chest X-ray, men generally have no taboos and will take off their clothes and have the X-ray taken directly. However, women are different. They will be very reluctant to face a male doctor. After all, he is a stranger, how can he see their private parts? So, scientifically speaking, do you need to take off your underwear for a chest X-ray?

1. Both chest X-ray and chest film utilize the penetrating properties of X-rays.

However, chest X-ray requires doctors to observe dynamically under fluoroscopy, and the patient's examination time is relatively long.

A chest X-ray can be exposed in about 0.15-0.3 seconds to complete the examination, and the X-rays stay on human tissue for a shorter time.

In comparison, a chest X-ray emits much less radiation than a fluoroscopy.

The radiation risk to human body is negligible.

2. Compared with chest X-ray, chest X-ray has lower resolution and poorer contrast.

As a result, it is easy to miss the diagnosis of tiny lesions and thick parts, and chest X-ray cannot retain image records.

Chest X-rays are suitable for observing subtle lesions and thick areas, and can provide preserved records, especially for comparison during patient follow-up and consultation and discussion.

3. It is recommended that the examinee not place foreign objects in the chest clothing and remove jewelry.

Do not place mobile phones, coins or other opaque foreign objects, and remove necklaces, jade pendants and other accessories.

Girls should take off bras with metal supports and buckles, or metal accessories, and dresses with metal zippers, metal ornaments, or snap buttons.

Because these objects are not transparent to X-rays.

If it is not removed, it may easily lead to missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis, which will affect the diagnosis results.

Moreover, repeated examinations will expose the examinees to unnecessary radiation, affect the diagnosis results, and cause unnecessary trouble to the examinees.
