So, what is the reason for the swelling and pain on both sides of the breasts of these people?

1. Concept

Mastodynia is the mildest clinical manifestation of breast hyperplasia. It is the cyclical proliferation of breast ducts and lobules. It is a physiological change and is also called "premenstrual syndrome". It mostly occurs in young women before the age of 25.

2. Causes

1. Breast hyperplasia and breast pain

It does not change with the menstrual cycle, has no fixed time, and lasts longer. The age of these women is mostly around 40-45 years old. The pain is limited to the breast and is relatively shallow.

2. Mastitis and breast pain

This pain is very obvious and unbearable, and is accompanied by redness, swelling and heat. It mostly occurs in primiparas within 1-2 months after delivery.

3. Breast pain during puberty

The earliest breast pain in girls is when their breasts begin to develop. First, the nipples swell and there is a slight swelling and pain. After menarche, it will disappear on its own as the breasts mature during puberty.

4. Premenstrual breast pain. Many women experience fullness, hardness, and tenderness in their breasts during menstruation. In severe cases, the breasts may become swollen and painful even with a slight vibration or collision, and the original granular or nodular feeling may become more obvious. After the menstrual period, the above changes disappear.

5. Breast pain during pregnancy Breast pain after pregnancy is caused by the placenta and villi secreting large amounts of estrogen, progesterone and prolactin, which cause breast hyperplasia and breast enlargement.

6. Cancerous breast pain

When breast pain persists, the pain is fixed and radiates to the shoulders and back, and there is a feeling of weight in the shoulders, there is a possibility of breast cancer. It must be taken seriously and you should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.

3. Type

1. Cyclic mastalgia

Cyclic mastalgia usually presents as diffuse soreness or heaviness in both breasts, which may radiate to the armpits or upper arms, or may affect only one breast. Symptoms often worsen 3 to 14 days before the menstrual cycle and are relieved to varying degrees as the menstrual cycle comes. In most cases, pain in the upper outer quadrant of the breast is more severe than pain in other parts of the breast and may be accompanied by diffuse breast nodules.

2. Non-cyclical mastalgia

Noncyclical mastalgia can occur before or after menopause. The clinical manifestations are persistent or intermittent mastalgia in both or one breast. The symptoms may be mild or severe at times and have nothing to do with the menstrual cycle. The pain is mostly located in the upper outer quadrant of the breast, and 50% of patients may have breast nodules; a very small number of patients experience localized burning pain, which is called "trigger point pain."
