What is ectopic pregnancy?

Ectopic pregnancy is a symptom that people often hear about, but many young people may not know what ectopic pregnancy means. In fact, it is very easy to understand. Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy process. The main reason is that the fertilized egg implants outside the uterine cavity. There are many possible locations, such as inside the fallopian tube. In any case, the harm of ectopic pregnancy is very large. The following will introduce you to relevant knowledge about ectopic pregnancy.

What is ectopic pregnancy?

What is ectopic pregnancy? Ectopic pregnancy, also known as ectopic pregnancy, refers to the abnormal pregnancy process in which the fertilized egg implants and develops outside the uterine cavity, with fallopian tube pregnancy being the most common. Inflammation in the fallopian tube lumen or its surroundings often causes poor patency of the lumen, hindering the normal operation of the fertilized egg, causing it to stay, implant and develop in the fallopian tube, leading to miscarriage or rupture of the fallopian tube pregnancy. There are often no obvious symptoms before miscarriage or rupture, but there may also be symptoms of amenorrhea, abdominal pain, and a small amount of vaginal bleeding. Once ruptured, symptoms include acute and severe abdominal pain, repeated attacks, vaginal bleeding, and even shock. Women who are too obese cannot receive a clear diagnosis due to multiple tests, which can easily delay treatment and pose a serious threat.

If you are not considering becoming a mother for the time being, you must use good contraception. Good contraception can fundamentally prevent the occurrence of ectopic pregnancy. At the same time, attention should be paid to timely treatment of reproductive system diseases, attention to hygiene during menstruation, delivery and postpartum period, and prevention of reproductive system infections. Go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible after menopause to determine the location of the pregnancy. Obese women are advised to keep their weight within a reasonable range before pregnancy.

Causes of ectopic pregnancy

During a normal pregnancy, the sperm and egg combine at the junction of the ampulla and isthmus of the fallopian tube to form a fertilized egg. 30 hours after fertilization, the fertilized egg moves toward the uterus with the peristalsis of the fallopian tube and the push of the cilia of the fallopian tube epithelium. If the fertilized egg has not entered the inner side of the uterine cavity before the late blastocyst, ectopic pregnancy is likely to occur. The causes of ectopic pregnancy include fallopian tube inflammation, fallopian tube dysplasia or dysfunction, intrauterine contraceptive device failure, etc. Disease factors and bad living habits can increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy in women.

1. Fallopian tube inflammation. It can be divided into tubal mucositis and perisalpingitis, both of which are common causes of tubal pregnancy. Severe cases of fallopian tube mucositis can cause complete blockage of the tubal lumen and lead to infertility. The lesions of perisalpingitis are mainly in the serosa or seromuscular layer of the fallopian tube, which often causes adhesions around the fallopian tube, twisting of the fallopian tube, stenosis of the tubal lumen, and weakened peristalsis of the tubal wall muscles, affecting the movement of the fertilized egg.

2. History of tubal pregnancy. Women who have had a tubal pregnancy are more likely to have another tubal pregnancy after recovering from surgical treatment.

3. Insertion of intrauterine contraceptive device. The use of an IUD itself does not increase the incidence of ectopic pregnancy, but if a woman becomes pregnant due to IUD contraceptive failure, the chance of an ectopic pregnancy is greater.
