Difference between placenta previa and placental abruption

Difference between placenta previa and placental abruption

There are so many things that women need to pay attention to after they become pregnant, and they need to go to the hospital for regular check-ups to ensure the physical and mental health of the fetus and themselves. There are two more common conditions during pregnancy, namely placenta previa and placental abruption. These two conditions are often confused by everyone, so below we will explain in detail the causes of placenta previa and placental abruption, as well as the difference between the two.

Placenta previa refers to the situation in which the embryo adheres to the lower part of the uterus after 28 weeks of pregnancy, and the outer edge of the embryo even reaches or covers the internal os of the cervix. Its location is smaller than the presenting part. It is a serious complication of pregnancy and can easily cause bleeding in the late stage of pregnancy. It often occurs in many pregnant women. Placenta previa is divided into the following three categories: complete placenta previa, that is, the embryonic tissue covers the entire internal cervical os; partial placenta previa, that is, the embryonic tissue covers a part of the internal cervical os; marginal placenta previa, that is, the embryonic tissue covers the edge of the internal cervical os. At present, the cause of placenta previa is still unclear. The main reasons may be multiple pregnancies, multiple abortions, etc. The key symptom of placenta previa is usually vaginal bleeding in late pregnancy. During treatment, you should stay in bed and observe the condition closely. If the bleeding is severe, the pregnancy should be terminated.

Placental abruption refers to the situation in which the embryo in the normal position partially or completely separates from the endometrium before the fetus is delivered after 20 weeks of pregnancy or during delivery. It is divided into mild placental abruption and severe placental abruption. The general symptoms of mild form are vaginal bleeding and mild abdominal pain; the general symptoms of severe form are sudden abdominal pain or back pain, and the more blood accumulates, the more severe the pain. The causes of placental abruption include: abdominal impact or fall of the pregnant woman; vascular disease during pregnancy; placental abruption; long-term smoking or cocaine abuse; a sudden increase in uterine venous pressure in the pregnant woman in the late pregnancy. During treatment, the pregnant woman's blood should be replenished, and in serious cases, the pregnancy should be terminated.

Based on the above introduction, placenta previa and placental abruption are two common and different conditions during pregnancy. The difference between the two can be distinguished through B-ultrasound. Placenta previa refers to the location of the embryo below the uterus, or covering the internal os of the cervix, while placental abruption can be seen between the embryo and the endometrium, with the presence of marginal fluid hypoechoic areas and post-embryonic abscesses, etc. Another point is that placenta previa may cause placental abruption.
