What to do if you have round ligament pain in your uterus?

The uterus is one of the most important organs for women because it is the organ that nurtures the fetus. The fetus must grow in the uterus from development to birth. Therefore, the uterus is very important to women. Although the internal structure of the uterus seems relatively simple, once a problem occurs, it will cause great harm to the female body. For example, what should I do if I have pain in the round ligament of the uterus? Let’s take a look at the explanation below.

After pregnancy, the muscle wall of the uterus thickens and expands with the gradual growth of the fetus, placenta and amniotic fluid. The fundus of the uterus gradually rises and rises into the abdominal cavity. During the 20-24th week of pregnancy, the uterus grows fastest, and the round ligament stretches, lengthens, and increases in tension. The uterine wall where the round ligament is attached is pulled, causing pain. In the late stages of pregnancy, the growth rate of the uterine fundus gradually slows down, the stretching range of the round ligament becomes smaller, and the tension decreases. In addition, the body gradually adapts to the traction of the round ligament attachment point, so round ligament pain is only seen in the second half of pregnancy.

During the 18th to 24th week of pregnancy, you may feel a dull pain on one side or in the lower abdomen or groin area. The pain gets worse when you walk quickly or stand up and gets better when you lie down. This is called round ligament pain. The round ligaments of the uterus are bands of fibrous tissue on either side of the uterus that connect the upper end of the uterus to the labia majora. Because the uterus enlarges significantly during the second trimester, the ligaments are stretched and cause discomfort. It is completely normal to have a period of 6 months, and the pain will generally be significantly reduced after the 24th week.

The characteristics of round ligament pain in mid-pregnancy are :

1. No history of trauma;

2. Continuous dull pain that does not radiate to the spine or thigh root;

3. During the examination, the tenderness point is located in the front and lower part of the two corners of the uterus, which is equivalent to the upper 1/3 level between the uterine fundus and the pubic symphysis. It is symmetrical on both sides, with obvious tenderness, which is more obvious on the left side. The range is limited and fixed, about the size of a nickel coin. When pressed hard, it can cause pain at the attachment point of the round ligament on the same side.

4. There are no symptoms of late threatened abortion such as uterine contractions and vaginal bleeding.

Round ligament pain in mid-pregnancy is an acute process and does not require special treatment. You can rest in bed. If it affects your rest, a small amount of sedatives can be used. After about a week, the pain will gradually subside and disappear.

For "round ligament pain in the uterus", you can take the following measures to deal with it :

1. Rest your body frequently when standing and walking, and raise your feet when sitting.

2. When having a prenatal checkup, report any abdominal pain to reassure that there is no problem.
