Don't worry if your cervix is short, it's important to understand these

Many women find that their cervix is short during gynecological examinations, which makes them worry whether it will affect future pregnancy. In fact, there is no problem with pregnancy with a short cervix, but it is easy to have premature babies. Therefore, when women have this symptom, for the healthy growth of the baby, they need to cooperate with the doctor's treatment in time.

1. Short cervix

If the cervical canal shortens to less than 3.0, the fetus should be kept in good condition. If it is less than 2.0, a cerclage should be performed and the patient should remain in bed.

Shortening of the cervical canal can cause premature birth. You should not overwork, avoid spicy, greasy food, or carry heavy weight.

2. Is it difficult to get pregnant with a short cervix?

There is no problem with pregnancy if you have a short neck, but you are more likely to give birth to a premature baby.

Some studies have found that a short cervix can easily cause premature birth. Under what circumstances is the length of the cervix considered normal? Actually, this is not certain. It depends on how many weeks of pregnancy you are in. There was a study in Japan that counted a total of 514 pregnant women (from 16 weeks to 41 weeks) and found that there was a tendency that before 31 weeks, the average length of the cervix was 4 centimeters. After 31 weeks, the length of the cervix would slowly shorten because the cervix has gradually become thinner. It may slowly decrease from 4 centimeters to 2.2 or 2.3 centimeters. So it depends on how many weeks pregnant you are?

(1) 16 to 19 weeks of pregnancy: the average cervical length is 4.08 cm

(2) 20 to 23 weeks: 4.07 cm.

(3) 24 to 27 weeks: 4.03 cm.

(4) 28 to 31 weeks: 3.82 cm.

(5) 32 to 35 weeks: 3.19 cm.

(6) 36 to 39 weeks: 2.89 cm.

(7) After 40 weeks, it is 2.48 cm.

So if you are between 32 and 35 weeks pregnant and your cervix is 3.19 cm, you may be prone to premature birth. So after 16 weeks, you can ask your prenatal checkup doctor to measure the length of your cervix. There are three principles that are easy to remember: (1) Before 31 weeks, it should be more than 4 cm. (2) Between 31 and 36 weeks, it should be about 3 cm. (3) After 37 weeks, it should be less than 3 cm, which is normal. If it is too short, you should take measures to protect the fetus early to avoid giving birth to a "palm fairy" (premature baby)!
