Can I eat peppers during breastfeeding?

During breastfeeding, there is no problem in eating some spicy food appropriately. The key lies in personal gastrointestinal problems. But you should also be careful. If you have symptoms of getting a sore throat or indigestion, try not to eat chili peppers. After all, this can easily add fuel to the fire, aggravate the symptoms, and is not conducive to the body's conditioning.

1. Increase energy intake

The Chinese Nutrition Society recommends that the recommended daily energy intake for breastfeeding mothers should be increased by 500 kcal on the original basis, of which 100 kcal should preferably come from protein. Whether a breastfeeding mother's energy intake is sufficient can be judged based on the amount of breast milk and the mother's weight.

2. Supplement high-quality protein

The protein nutritional status of the breastfeeding mother has a great influence on lactation. If the quality and quantity of protein in the diet are not ideal, the secretion of milk will be reduced and the amino acid composition of the protein in the milk will be affected, which is not conducive to the growth and development of the baby. Nursing mothers should increase their protein intake by 15 grams per day to 85 grams per day, part of which should be high-quality protein.

3. Eat enough fat

The fat content of human milk varies greatly, and the baby's sucking activity can increase the fat content of the milk. Lipids in breast milk, especially unsaturated fatty acids, are closely related to the baby's brain development. For example, DHA is particularly important for the development of the central nervous system.

4. Ensure calcium supply

If the dietary calcium intake of a nursing mother cannot meet her needs, she may experience back pain, leg cramps and other symptoms due to calcium deficiency. The reference intake of calcium for lactating mothers is 1200 mg per day. It is recommended to drink at least 250 ml of milk every day to supplement about 300 mg of high-quality calcium, and consume about 100 grams of soy products and other calcium-rich foods to obtain 100 mg of calcium.

5. Take enough vitamins

Among the fat-soluble vitamins, only vitamin A can pass through the mammary glands in small amounts. However, the amount of vitamin A in the diet that is transferred to breast milk has a certain limit. Even if a nursing mother consumes a large amount of vitamin A, the content in breast milk cannot be increased proportionally. Pay attention to supplementing the mother's diet so that the baby's needs can also be met.
