How to unclog blocked breast ducts?

For new mothers, improper breastfeeding methods often lead to blockage of the mammary ducts, which will not only cause breast swelling and pain, but also affect breastfeeding. At this time, the mammary ducts must be cleared in time, for example, you can use a hot towel for hot compresses, and you can drink some dandelion water appropriately, which has a good effect of clearing heat and detoxifying. If the condition is serious, you can ask a lactation consultant to give you a massage, or go to the hospital for treatment.

1. Hot towel compress

When your milk is swollen, use a hot towel that your skin can accept as a warm compress to allow the milk inside to melt. Then let your baby suck it immediately. If it cannot be sucked out, use a breast pump. Empty the milk with a breast pump every time your baby finishes sucking. If you already have milk lumps, you can increase the number of times your baby sucks. Babies' little mouths are very powerful, and they work very hard to help their mothers clear the milk ducts.

2. Drink some dandelion water or honeysuckle water

If the milk knot has not been relieved after applying hot compress for several days, you can try drinking some dandelion water or honeysuckle water. Honeysuckle water is relatively cool, so mothers with cold bodies should drink it with caution. If the mammary gland is already inflamed, you can buy some tongcao and luffa and boil them in water to drink. The taste is quite strong. If you don't like it, you can take Junaitong, which is quite effective in clearing the mammary gland. I drank this to clear my milk knots. It can also relieve and treat constipation.

3. Lactation massage

For mothers whose hot compresses and dietotherapy do not work, they can also try to hire a lactation consultant to unclog the mammary ducts by massaging the meridians and acupoints. The market price here is 200-400 yuan per time. Since the price is not cheap and the effect varies from person to person, it is recommended that mothers try the above two methods first. Most people will be able to unclog the ducts by themselves if they persist for a few days.

4. Use puncture to suck out the milk

If the mother has tried all methods but still cannot unblock the blockage, or if she has already developed a fever, it is recommended that she go to the hospital immediately for surgical treatment. Generally, puncture will be used to suck out the accumulated milk, but surgery during breastfeeding will increase the chance of infection and recurrence. However, if the milk blockage lasts too long and no measures are taken, the worsening inflammation will lead to skin ulcers and inability to continue breastfeeding, so you must carefully understand your own situation and then choose the appropriate treatment method.
