What are the causes of ovarian corpus luteum rupture?

When a woman's corpus luteum develops, it may damage some small blood vessels on the surface of the ovaries. In this case, bleeding will occur inside the corpus luteum, and the pressure inside will increase, leading to rupture. This is when the disease of ovarian corpus luteum rupture occurs. If the condition is serious, it can cause a large amount of abdominal bleeding. What are the possible causes of this disease?

1. What is Corpus Luteum Rupture?

What is ovarian corpus luteum rupture? Corpus luteum rupture is one of the common gynecological acute abdomens, often occurring in women aged 14-30 years. The corpus luteum rupture may occur due to excessive exercise or strenuous labor, external impact on the abdomen, excessive movements during sexual intercourse, impact or squeezing of the lower abdomen, or even severe coughing or excessive force due to constipation.

During the development of the female corpus luteum, if the small blood vessels on the surface of the ovaries are damaged, bleeding will occur inside the corpus luteum, leading to increased internal pressure and rupture. Corpus luteum rupture often occurs in the last week of the menstrual cycle, that is, within 1 week before the next menstruation. Because the rupture is in the abdominal cavity, blood flows into the abdominal cavity, which can cause a series of symptoms of corpus luteum rupture, especially abdominal pain. If the damaged blood vessels are large, the amount of bleeding is heavy, and they cannot heal themselves, symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, palpitations, and even shock may occur, and may also be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and a feeling of heaviness in the anus. At this time, surgery is needed to ligate the ruptured blood vessels and stop the bleeding in order to save lives.

2. Symptoms of Corpus Luteum Rupture

1. Most cases of ovarian corpus luteum rupture occur in the second half of the menstrual cycle, and there are generally no symptoms of late menstruation or vaginal bleeding.

2. Sudden lower abdominal pain, tenderness and rebound pain in the second half of menstruation. A small number of people may experience heavy bleeding, which may cause nausea, vomiting, severe lower abdominal pain, and even low blood pressure and shock, which is life-threatening.

3. Gynecological examination showed tenderness in the posterior fornix, pain when shaking the cervix, a mass with tenderness in the adnexal area on one side, and no coagulation when blood was drawn out by puncture of the posterior fornix.

4. B-ultrasound can detect pelvic effusion and adnexal masses.

5. Pregnancy tests generally show a negative reaction.

6. After a bleeding episode, the ovarian corpus luteum rupture can gradually coagulate and stop bleeding, and the chance of recurring is relatively low.

3. Causes of Corpus Luteum Rupture

After a woman ovulates, a large amount of fluid is released in the corpus luteum to form a cyst, which is often isolated on the surface of the protruding ovary. The cyst wall is slightly thick and has a rich surrounding vascular network. If the fluid in the corpus luteum cyst cannot be absorbed in time or the internal pressure is too high, external forces such as defecation, abdominal trauma, sexual intercourse, etc. can easily induce corpus luteum rupture and bleeding.

1. Automatic rupture

Normally, there is a small amount of bleeding in the corpus luteum, but if there is too much bleeding, it may increase the pressure in the corpus luteum and cause spontaneous rupture. Some people believe that during the period of luteinization, vascular dysfunction occurs, which makes capillary bleeding in the corpus luteum prone to occur, leading to corpus luteum rupture.

2. The result of external force

If the lower abdomen is hit, or if you jump, run, cough hard or defecate violently, the pressure in the abdominal cavity will suddenly increase, which can cause the mature corpus luteum to rupture. In addition, during sexual intercourse, the female reproductive organs expand and become congested, the tension in the corpus luteum increases, and the man's rough movements cause a strong impact on the woman's lower abdomen, which can also lead to rupture of the corpus luteum.
