Will my breasts get smaller if I don’t breastfeed after giving birth?

In order to prevent their body from being deformed, many women do not breastfeed their babies after they have a baby. However, some people say that if you do not breastfeed after giving birth, your breasts will become smaller due to lack of milk secretion. For this situation, you cannot just listen to what others say, but need scientific basis. The following will introduce to you whether your breasts will become smaller if you do not breastfeed after giving birth?

1. Whether or not to breastfeed after childbirth has no direct relationship with the size of a woman's breasts. Although the breasts will become larger during pregnancy and breastfeeding to adapt to the work of breastfeeding, they will shrink after the breastfeeding period, and sometimes the shape will change, such as sagging. However, breastfeeding itself is good for the mammary glands and can greatly reduce the occurrence of breast diseases. However, if you do not breastfeed after giving birth, the shape of your breasts will not change, that is, they will not get bigger or smaller under normal circumstances. However, from the perspective of maternal and child health, exclusive breastfeeding is recommended!

2. After delivery, the breasts begin to secrete milk, and the sweat secreted by the mother may form a layer of scale around the nipples. Mothers should clean their breasts before the first breastfeeding. Apply clean vegetable oil on the nipples, wait for the scale and scab on the nipples to soften, and then wash them with warm soapy water with low alkalinity. Then scrub the breasts, nipples and areola with warm water.

3. During the breastfeeding period, mothers should choose the correct feeding method according to the specific situation. Commonly used methods include sitting, side-lying, and embracing. Correct breastfeeding posture helps prevent nipple diseases. When breastfeeding, the mother should first lift up her breast, use the nipple to tease the baby's lower lip, and when the baby opens his mouth as wide as possible, put the nipple into the baby's mouth. The nipple and most of the areola should be stuffed in together to effectively prevent nipple cracking. After breastfeeding, when the baby stops sucking, gently press the baby's lower lip with your index finger to allow air to enter the mouth and eliminate negative pressure; then gently remove the nipple from the baby's mouth.
