What to do if amniocentesis is abnormal?

Amniotic fluid is the water of life that maintains the normal development of the fetus. Whether the amniotic fluid is abnormal or not is also related to whether the fetus has developmental malformations in the uterus. In addition, the amount of amniotic fluid also directly affects the healthy development of the fetus. Amniocentesis is a necessary means to rule out Down syndrome and can prevent the occurrence of mentally retarded and deformed children. What should I do if the amniotic fluid is abnormal?

01 Generally speaking, if the amniocentesis shows chromosomal abnormalities, we may recommend induced abortion in clinical practice to prevent the child from being born! Because this is based on the perspective of eugenics. Of course, we only give suggestions in clinical practice, and the real decision-makers are the children’s parents and families!

02So who are generally more likely to have chromosomal abnormalities? Studies have shown that pregnant women who become pregnant later in life, are older, or have previously had a child with Down syndrome are more likely to have chromosomal abnormalities. Therefore, these two types of people must undergo prenatal screening!

03If prenatal screening shows a high-risk chromosomal abnormality, we may need to do amniocentesis to confirm the diagnosis. Generally, the results of amniocentesis are used as a reference in clinical practice! Amniocentesis requires certain skills from the surgeon, so it is recommended to go to a large hospital!

Note:

Everyone wants to have a healthy baby, but what if an abnormal situation occurs? Whether to have a child or not is something that our parents need to evaluate themselves; outsiders cannot make the decision.
