What are the clinical symptoms of adenomyosis?

The incidence of adenomyosis is relatively high, and many women are susceptible to it. The common symptom is dysmenorrhea. More than 60% of patients will have symptoms of dysmenorrhea, and will also show symptoms of excessive menstrual flow or pain during sexual intercourse.

1. Dysmenorrhea

On average, more than 60% of patients with adenomyosis experience symptoms of dysmenorrhea, which is also the main reason why patients seek medical treatment. Most of them are secondary dysmenorrhea. There is no dysmenorrhea during adolescence or even the reproductive period, it only occurs later. It often begins a week before menstruation and is relieved when the menstrual period ends. Taking painkillers can relieve dysmenorrhea in the early stages, but as the disease progresses, the dosage of painkillers required for dysmenorrhea increases significantly, making it impossible for patients to tolerate it. The dysmenorrhea of adenomyosis is more obvious than that of endometriosis, and the gradually increasing pain intensity is a typical symptom of adenomyosis.

2. Excessive menstrual flow

Patients with adenomyosis usually experience heavy menstrual flow, and some patients may also experience spotting before and after menstruation. This is because adenomyosis causes thickening of the uterine muscle wall, a significant increase in uterine volume, and a significant increase in the area of the endometrium, which leads to an increase in the area of endometrial shedding and asynchronous shedding during menstruation. At the same time, the thickening of the uterine muscle layer affects the contraction and hemostasis of the uterine cavity, so the amount of menstrual bleeding increases significantly and the menstrual period is prolonged.

3. Pain during sexual intercourse

Ectopic endometrium in the pelvic cavity often forms nodular lesions in the rectouterine pouch, causing pain when the cervix collides with and the uterus is lifted during sexual intercourse.

4. Enlarged uterus

Gynecological examination shows an enlarged uterus, which is usually uniformly enlarged, but a uterus of normal size or even smaller than normal may also indicate the presence of adenomyosis. Hard and tender. Patients may have nodular projections or surface irregularities. During menstruation, the uterus may enlarge, become softer than usual, and be more tender.
