Is fasting required for infertility testing? Authoritative experts answer

After infertility occurs, people usually go to the hospital for detailed examinations. As we all know, some examinations require fasting, which can make the test results more accurate. If you are going to do infertility examinations, it is recommended that you fast.

1. Generally, it is recommended that the five infertility antibody tests be performed on an empty stomach to avoid affecting the test results. It is better to perform the test on an empty stomach.

Second, because hormones, prolactin, and ovarian tumor indexes will not fluctuate or change before or after meals, infertility examinations do not require fasting; and fallopian tube photography is performed when the patient is awake, so fasting is not required. Only hysteroscopy and laparoscopy are performed under general anesthesia. To avoid aspiration pneumonia caused by reflux of food in the stomach, patients are required to fast for 8 hours before the examination.

3. Thirteen examinations that women need to undergo: vaginal examination, cervical examination, uterine examination, fallopian tube examination, ovarian examination, pelvic examination, endocrine examination, sex hormone examination, immune factor examination, systemic factor examination, mental and psychological factor examination, congenital factor examination, ovulation function examination, ultrasonic B-ultrasound examination, and four routine examinations. It depends on the situation. Some people need to fast.

4. It is best to go on an empty stomach. Currently, larger hospitals can perform vaginal ultrasound examinations, so you don’t necessarily need to hold your urine. However, you don't have to urinate when you need to. If the hospital you go to doesn't have a vaginal ultrasound, you will need to hold your urine.

Suggestions: It is recommended that you and your spouse go to a regular hospital for a comprehensive and systematic examination to identify the cause of infertility and to receive targeted treatment.

5. What are the precautions before infertility examination?

1. Fasting examination: hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. These two tests need to be performed under general anesthesia. In order to avoid aspiration pneumonia caused by reflux of food in the stomach, patients are required to fast for 8 hours before the test.

2. Morning time: Prolactin test. Excessive prolactin will interfere with normal ovulation and menstrual cycle. Infertility experts say that prolactin will rise physiologically in the evening, especially at night, so it is recommended to check in the morning.

3. Non-menstrual period: ovarian tumor index check. If you choose to draw blood during menstruation to check the ovarian tumor index, most of the results will be false positives and high, which will make the patient's examination in vain. So check during your non-menstrual period.

4. On the second and third day of menstruation: ovarian function test. Infertility experts point out that blood tests are usually done on the second or third day of the menstrual period. The hormones in the female body will not fluctuate too much, so problems such as ovarian aging, chronic anovulation and polycystic ovary syndrome can be clearly determined.

5. Three to seven days after menstruation: fallopian tube photography, hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. Menstrual blood may block the previously unobstructed fallopian tubes, and water and contrast agents may wash away the embryo, causing an ectopic pregnancy. The examination should be done within three to seven days after the end of menstruation.

6. Abstinence for three to seven days: male semen examination. This test usually only requires a short period of abstinence from sex for three to seven days. The collected semen is placed in an examination box and handed over to the technician within one hour in accordance with the staff's working hours.
