Normally our urine is transparent. Many women have turbid urine. It is normal to have turbid urine occasionally, but you should be alert if the urine is often turbid. This phenomenon in women is related to urinary tract infection and urate precipitation. 1. Turbid urine in women can be seen in the following situations: 1. Urate precipitation: When concentrated acidic urine is cooled, light red urate may precipitate. It can be dissolved when heated or with the addition of alkali. This situation is more common in cold weather. 2. Phosphate and carbonate precipitation: If the urine is alkaline, phosphate or carbonate may precipitate in white color and can be dissolved by adding acid. Carbonate can produce bubbles when it meets acid. 3. Urinary tract infection: Mainly related to the reproduction of urinary tract bacteria, the appearance of pyuria, white blood cells, and milky white urine. 4. Chylous urine: It is white chyluria, seen in obstruction of the perirenal lymphatic vessels caused by filariasis or other reasons, which is easy to identify with the naked eye. 2. What causes cloudy urine? The most common reason for turbid urine is that the urine is too alkaline, which causes phosphate crystals to precipitate in the urine and makes the urine turbid. If acid is added to this kind of urine, the white turbidity will disappear, which is the opposite of proteinuria. After meals or drinking large amounts of milk can cause an increase in phosphates in the urine. Other causes of turbid urine are severe urine infections. The rare chyluria is caused by blockage of the lymphatic vessels by parasitic filarial worms. 3. Turbid urine with white precipitation If the urine is turbid, a urine microscopy and proteinuria test are required. Urine microscopy can detect whether the urine is infected. A simple method for detecting proteinuria is to interpret the reaction using a test strip, but false positive results may occur when the test strip is tested. These conditions include the urine acidity being too alkaline, the urine containing metabolites of cephalosporins, penicillins, and sulfonamides, or the urine container and the sampling being contaminated by sterilizing cleaning fluids. |
