Can I get pregnant while breastfeeding?

During the breastfeeding period, since menstruation has not resumed, many women are lucky enough to think that they will not get pregnant during the breastfeeding period. But in fact, during the breastfeeding period, even if menstruation has not resumed, ovulation will resume, so pregnancy is possible.

Reminder 1: Start contraception from the first sexual intercourse after childbirth

Many people believe that it is impossible to get pregnant during breastfeeding because of amenorrhea. But in fact, some new mothers’ ovarian function recovers quickly after childbirth, and they will ovulate even if their menstruation has not yet resumed. Therefore, even if you are still breastfeeding and have not had your period, you should still take reliable contraceptive measures. It is best to start using contraception from the first time you have sexual intercourse after giving birth.

Reminder 2: New mothers who have had a cesarean section should pay more attention to contraception

Because cesarean sections leave scars, the muscles around the scars are thin and lack contractility. If you don't take proper contraceptive measures after a cesarean section and get pregnant again, it will be very dangerous if the embryo implants in the scar. In addition, since there is an incision in the uterus of the mother who underwent cesarean section, it would be difficult to perform an artificial abortion. If it is not done properly, it may cause adverse consequences such as uterine perforation. Therefore, mothers who have undergone cesarean section should pay more attention to postpartum contraception.

Reminder 3: Do not choose contraceptive pills during breastfeeding

Although taking birth control pills is simple and convenient, it is best for breastfeeding mothers not to use this method for contraception. Because contraceptives contain testosterone, progesterone, and estrogen derivatives, these substances, after entering the mother's body, will inhibit the production of prolactin and reduce the secretion of milk;

On the other hand, the active ingredients in contraceptive drugs will enter the baby's body through breast milk, which is not good for the baby's growth and development. In addition, birth control pills can cause a further decline in ovarian function, which can have an adverse effect on the restoration of normal menstruation in the future. So, what kind of contraceptive measures are more appropriate during breastfeeding? Condoms would be a better choice. Because condoms do not contain drugs that can enter the human body, they will not cause any drug effects on either children or women.
