What to do if the episiotomy wound becomes inflamed? Take good care of it in time

Many women will undergo episiotomy during normal childbirth to ensure a healthy and smooth delivery of the baby. Caring for the episiotomy wound is very important. You must rinse it after each use of the toilet and keep the wound dry to avoid inflammation.

1. Rinse the wound after going to the toilet

Many new mothers believe that the pain of episiotomy is bearable. However, the 1-2 weeks after an episiotomy are the most difficult. Taking painkillers is the most direct way to relieve pain, but you can also take some physical therapy to make the wound recover as quickly as possible.

Before removing the stitches, new mothers should rinse the wound twice a day to avoid contamination by excrement. Especially when going to the toilet.

You should rinse your private parts with water after urinating or defecating, just like wiping with toilet paper, and rinse from front to back to avoid bacterial infection. After the stitches are removed, if the new mother's lochia has not yet cleared, it is best for the new mother to rinse the wound with warm water every day after going to the toilet.

At the same time, new mothers should keep their bowel movements smooth after delivery to prevent the wound from splitting. When defecating, it is best to sit down and try to shorten the time.

2. Keep the wound dry

It is important for new mothers who have a vaginal delivery using an episiotomy to keep the wound dry. This way, the wound can heal further. Within 3 days after an episiotomy, the hospital will have comprehensive cleaning measures and use disinfectant to wash the new mother's private parts. Three days after an episiotomy during a normal delivery, or after being discharged from the hospital, the new mother should clean her private parts with clean water or lotion every day. If possible, it is best to do it twice a day.

New mothers must keep the local area clean and hygienic, change and wash sanitary utensils and underwear frequently, and expose them to the sun after washing to achieve the purpose of sterilization and disinfection.

In addition, the editor recommends that new mothers pat the perineum with tissue paper after going to the toilet or taking a shower to keep the wound dry and clean. When caring for the private parts, new mothers should choose safe hygiene products, change them in time, and keep the private parts dry. When sleeping or lying in bed, it is best to lie on the side without the perineal wound to reduce the chance of lochia flowing into the perineal wound.

3. Avoid using force and do not lift heavy objects

New mothers who have had an episiotomy can usually sit up and eat soon after giving birth. One day after delivery, the new mother can get out of bed and move around lightly 1 to 3 times a day accompanied by the expectant father.

However, during this period, new mothers should avoid exerting excessive force, which may increase abdominal pressure and damage private wounds. After 10 days, the new mother can do some light housework to help the body's organs recover normally, but still avoid lifting heavy objects.

According to traditional customs, new mothers who are in confinement after childbirth should “lie down instead of sitting, and sit instead of standing”. Especially for new mothers who give birth naturally through episiotomy, it is best for them to stay in bed. Of course, it is best for new mothers not to use their strength to lift heavy objects or hold their children while standing.

In addition, the editor recommends that new mothers should not get out of bed suddenly in the first week after delivery, because the blood will suddenly flow completely downward, which can easily cause low-position anemia. Therefore, new mothers should get out of bed slowly.
