Why does the episiotomy wound itch? Causes of itchy wounds

The most important thing for new mothers is to take good care of the wound after episiotomy. Generally, the wound will itch after episiotomy. This is normal. It means the wound is healing. Just take good care of it. Keep the wound clean and dry to avoid inflammation.

1. Why does the episiotomy wound itch?

Why does the episiotomy wound itch? The episiotomy wound may itch or hurt from time to time. It does not look red or swollen and feels hard. This is normal. The tissues and nerves are growing while the wound is healing. It is normal for the wound to itch. It is recommended to supplement more nutrition and exercise more. It will get better soon. Don't worry too much.

Expectant mothers should take good care of the episiotomy wound. Keep the wound clean and dry. The hospital will have complete cleaning measures within 3 days after the operation, and use more disinfectant lotion to rinse the vulva. After 3 days or after being discharged from the hospital, the mother needs to clean the vulva with clean water or lotion every day. If possible, it is best to do it twice a day. At the same time, choose safe sanitary products, replace them in time, and keep the vulva dry.

2. Betadine can be used for wound swelling and pain

Under normal circumstances, after an episiotomy for a new mother, the wound can basically heal within a week after delivery, and after a period of time it can completely return to normal. The private parts will still maintain good elasticity and will have no effect on future sexual life.

For new mothers whose lacerations are more serious and whose wounds are still swollen and painful 10 days after delivery, the editor recommends adding betadine to the water for a sitz bath, or using a heating lamp to speed up wound recovery. Betadine is a water-soluble iodine preparation that is generally used to disinfect and clean wounds.

Betadine has a bactericidal effect, while warm water and heating lamps can promote blood circulation through high temperature.

If the new mother has been discharged from the hospital, but the episiotomy wound becomes infected or ruptures again, the new mother should go to the hospital for examination and treatment immediately. If the wound tissue is split for a short time, a second suture can be performed immediately after disinfection, and most wounds can heal.

If there is secretion flowing out of the wound tissue, it cannot be sutured. At this time, you can use potassium permanganate solution for a sitz bath and take antibiotics to prevent infection. After local dressing changes, let the episiotomy wound heal on its own.
