What are the reasons for missing menstruation?

What are the reasons for missing menstruation?

Menstruation is a physiological cycle. Under normal circumstances, women will have menstruation every month. Some women also face the situation of delayed menstruation. As for the reasons why women do not have menstruation, in addition to pregnancy, it may also be related to some diseases and life factors.

1. False pregnancy

False pregnancy is an interesting condition that usually occurs in women who desperately want a child but have not yet or are unable to conceive. Such women may show signs of pregnancy, such as missed menstruation, weight gain, lactation, and even the patient herself may feel the movement of the fetus. However, upon careful examination, they are not pregnant.

2. Anorexia nervosa

Anorexia nervosa is caused by psychological factors that lead to insufficient food intake and malnutrition, resulting in cessation of menstruation. It is usually more likely to occur in a family with an obsessive-compulsive personality. However, as long as they receive good medical treatment, most patients can resume their menstruation within 3 months after treatment. On the contrary, if you take it lightly and don't treat it, 10%~

20% of patients may develop irreversible physical disabilities, and some may even lose their precious lives due to excessive malnutrition. Therefore, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are very important.

3. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia

Some women who do not have their periods exhibit very special symptoms. Not only do they not have their periods, but they also look like a boy, with a deep voice, thick and black body hair, rough skin, dark complexion, and a short and stocky stature. During a physical examination, it is found that her genitals are like those of a boy, but a chromosome test shows that she is indeed a girl. This condition is medically called "congenital adrenal hyperplasia". In severe cases, the patient may appear to be hermaphroditic.

4. Cushing's syndrome

He was also obese, had thick and dark body hair, a face as round as the moon, and was covered with acne. There were visible stripes of cracked skin and bruises on his body. His blood pressure was higher than that of the average person, but his reproductive organs were normal. It took almost no thought for the doctor to diagnose the patient - he was suffering from Cushing's syndrome.

Most of these patients have pituitary gland tumors, adrenal gland tumors, or problems in the brain. Therefore, finding out the real cause of the disease is the main job of the doctor. Only by finding the correct location of the disease can appropriate treatment be given.

5. Others

At present, the medical community has confirmed that there are many possible reasons for amenorrhea. For example, girls who go on a diet to lose weight, causing severe malnutrition, or female prisoners in concentration camps who suffer from severe malnutrition, may also suffer from amenorrhea. In addition, amenorrhea may also occur if the patient has chronic kidney disease, cirrhosis of the liver, or has stopped taking birth control pills for a period of time.
