Symptoms of oral ulcers include erosions and sores in multiple parts of the mouth and tongue, redness and swelling of the sores, burning pain, and even bad breath and swollen and painful gums, accompanied by thirst and frequent drinking, yellow urine and constipation, red tongue with yellow coating, and slippery and rapid pulse.

2. Weak spleen and stomach type

Symptoms of oral ulcers include recurrent sores in the mouth and tongue, with the sores being pale and sunken, accompanied by fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, cold limbs, loose stools, pale tongue with white coating, and a thready and weak pulse. Treatment should be aimed at tonifying the middle and replenishing Qi, strengthening the spleen and eliminating dampness.

3. Heart and kidney yin deficiency type

Symptoms of oral ulcers include bright red ulcers, large numbers of ulcers, different shapes and sizes, pain that is lighter during the day and heavier at night, accompanied by palpitations, irritability, insomnia, forgetfulness, dizziness, tinnitus, pain in the waist and knees, dry throat and mouth, short and yellow urine, red tongue with thin coating, and a weak and rapid pulse.

4. Oral ulcers caused by exogenous toxins

It usually occurs 1 to 2 days after an external infection, accompanied by symptoms of an external infection. Initially, the oral mucosa is locally congested, red, swollen, and slightly painful. Small chestnut-like red spots or blisters appear on the tip of the tongue or inside the lips. The blisters burst within 12 hours, appearing as superficial ulcers with clear boundaries.

5. Blood deficiency and Yin deficiency

Symptoms of oral ulcers include mouth and tongue ulcers occurring mostly before and after menstruation, accompanied by early and heavy menstruation, fever in the five parts of the body, dry mouth and thirst, pale tongue with thin white coating, and a thin and weak pulse. The treatment should be to nourish blood and tonify yin, and to reduce internal heat.

6. Spleen and Kidney Yang Deficiency

Symptoms of oral ulcers include sores in the mouth and tongue. The ulcers are white in color, with no redness around them, and are small in number. They do not heal after long-term treatment, accompanied by cold limbs, dry mouth, preference for hot drinks, back pain, frequent and clear urination, loose stools, pale tongue with white greasy coating, and a deep and weak pulse.
