Caesarean section scar redness and swelling

Caesarean section scar redness and swelling

Caesarean section is a way for pregnant women to give birth. For some women who cannot give birth naturally due to physical conditions, it can be said to be an excellent way to give birth to a baby. However, since it is a caesarean section, surgery is required, which will leave certain wounds on the mother's belly, and these wounds will also leave scars in the future. So, why do cesarean section scars appear red and swollen? This will be introduced below!

1. What is a cesarean section scar?

Caesarean section scar is the inevitable product left on the wound after caesarean section surgery. It is generally white or grayish white, smooth and hard in texture. About 8-12 weeks after surgery, scars begin to proliferate, becoming locally red, purple, hardened, and protruding from the skin surface. About 41% of cesarean section scars will develop into pathological scars, accompanied by severe itching and pain, and even spread to normal skin tissue. Therefore, if cesarean section scars are not prevented, the consequences are unpredictable.

2. Causes of scars

The formation of scars is affected by many factors, such as skin tension, age, skin color, hormone levels, wound depth, etc. The mechanism of scar formation is complex and it remains a medical problem. The formation mechanism of cesarean section scars is different from that of scrapes and cuts in daily life. After the operation, the wound penetrates deep into the dermis, and the human body must heal the wound by producing scar tissue. However, once a wound is formed, it is impossible to make the scar disappear completely.

3. Caesarean section scar care

After a long-term investigation, it was found that some women do not pay attention to scar care, and special precautions are given to female friends:

1. Do not remove the scab on the incision too early after surgery. Removing the scab too early and forcefully will take away the epidermal cells that are still in the repair stage, or even tear off the dermal tissue, and stimulate itching of the wound.

2. Avoid sunlight to prevent ultraviolet stimulation and pigmentation.

3. Improve your diet and eat more fruits, eggs, lean meat, pork skin and other foods rich in vitamins C, E and essential amino acids. These foods can promote blood circulation and improve epidermal metabolism. Avoid eating spicy foods such as chili peppers, onions and garlic.

4. Keep the scar clean and hygienic, wipe off sweat in time, do not scratch it with your hands, rub the scar with clothes or use water to relieve itching, so as not to aggravate local irritation, promote inflammatory reaction of connective tissue, and cause further itching. When the wound is just healing, there will be some secretions, which is the best place for bacteria to grow. At this time, the epidermis of the wound is not clean enough, which can easily cause infection and ulceration. During this time, it can be cleaned with a neutral detergent.

5. Carry out prevention in the early stage. Pay attention to the methods of preventing scar formation from the beginning, and be prepared to prevent scar formation at every stage.
