What should I do if I can’t sleep due to toothache? These remedies are super effective

Toothache is not a disease, but it is really painful when it happens. Toothache is a very common symptom in life, and it is really torturous when it happens, especially at night when you can't sleep at all because of toothache. What should you do in this situation?

Causes of toothache at night:

First, people lie flat when they sleep at night. The change in posture from standing to lying flat causes blood to flow backwards and the amount of blood in the head increases. As a result, the pressure in the dental pulp cavity in the mouth will also increase, which puts the dental nerve in a state of compression. In addition, there are inflammatory secretions and pus in the dental pulp cavity. Therefore, under the combined pressure, severe pain will occur, and the pain will be more obvious than during the day.

Second, at night, especially when sleeping, oral activity decreases and the amount of saliva secretion also decreases, so the dilution and clearing effect of pulpitis inflammatory secretions will also decrease. The increased concentration of secretions will stimulate and amplify the pain sensation, making toothache more painful at night than during the day.

Third, toothache is also related to psychological effects. At night, since attention is not distracted, the nerves are more sensitive and it is easier to feel pain.

First aid measures:

1. Use a piece of Sichuan pepper and hold it on the decayed tooth to relieve the pain.

2. Crush a lilac flower with your teeth and fill the gaps in the decayed teeth. The toothache will disappear in a few hours and will last for a long time (lilac flowers can be purchased at Chinese medicine stores).

3. Rubbing the Hegu point (near the base of the hand) with water or massaging and pressing with your fingers can relieve pain.

4. Rinsing your mouth several times with salt water or wine can also relieve or stop toothache.

5. If your teeth hurt when exposed to heat, it is mostly caused by pus accumulation. You can use an ice pack to cool your cheeks to relieve the pain.

Note: After dawn the next day, you must go to the hospital for regular treatment as soon as possible, otherwise the pain will continue to worsen or recur.
