The "itch" that women can't ignore in their lifetime

There is a kind of itch that women cannot ignore. This itch is a common symptom of gynecological diseases: vulvar pruritus. As a sensitive area, various gynecological diseases and external stimuli can cause itching, making people unable to sleep or eat, and unable to sit or lie down. Attacks are often paroxysmal, but may also be continuous, usually worsening at night. Unexplained vulvar itching generally occurs only in women of childbearing age or postmenopausal women, often affecting the entire vulva, but may also be limited to a certain part or one side of the vulva. Although the itching is severe and even unbearable, the local skin and mucous membranes appear normal, or there are only scratches due to excessive scratching.

Why does vulva itch?

1. Dry vulva: such as excessive use of potassium permanganate solution sitz baths and dry vulva in postmenopausal women

2. Various diseases of the vulva: such as eczema, hypopigmentation or leukoplakia, ringworm, neurodermatitis, condyloma acuminatum, etc.

3. Discharge stimulation: stimulation caused by abnormal vaginal discharge due to vaginal inflammation, as well as stimulation caused by urine and feces

4. Chemicals and drugs cause local itching due to stimulation: such as alkaline soaps, condoms, sanitary napkins, synthetic underwear, etc., which directly contact and stimulate the local area for a long time and cause itching.

5. Systemic diseases: mainly diabetes, anemia, kidney disease, etc. In addition to systemic and vulvar itching, according to statistics, 3.4% of 500 diabetic patients had localized itching, mainly vulvar itching.

Is it necessary to go to the hospital?

If you have vulvar itching, it is recommended to go to the hospital to determine the cause and then receive targeted treatment. In particular, female vulvar itching not only affects the sexual life of the couple, but also easily induces genital infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, perinephritis, etc. If it is not cured for a long time, it can also lead to the occurrence of multiple diseases at the same time. When female vulvar itching is severe, it is difficult to cure and is prone to recurrence, which may cause premature birth, fetal infection, malformation, etc. When the itching of the vulva is severe, it not only makes people restless, but also affects their work, study, life and sleep.

What are the precautions?

1. Pay attention to local hygiene, clean with clean water every day, wash underwear separately, get enough rest, and avoid sexual intercourse.

2. Do not wear synthetic underwear, choose soft cotton underwear, wear less tight pants, and keep clean and dry.

3. Avoid blindly using vaginal washes and do not over-clean to avoid causing bacterial flora imbalance.

4. Elderly patients with vulvar pruritus should be alert to vulvar pruritus caused by systemic diseases, such as diabetes, estrogen deficiency, etc.

5. Avoid scratching with your hands, and avoid eating spicy and allergenic foods.
