Will anal fistula recur after surgery?

The prevalence of anorectal diseases caused by anal fistula is 1.67% to 2.6% in China and 8% to 20% overseas. The age of onset is mainly young people between 20 and 40 years old. Infant onset is also common, mainly in boys and rarely in girls, with a male-to-female ratio of 5:1.

Anal fistula surgery is divided into anal fistula excision and anal fistula incision and hanging thread surgery. Low-position anal fistula is more common in clinical medicine. Anal fistula removal surgery is suitable for low-position anal fistula. The surgical treatment is very simple because the fistula runs just below the external anal sphincter. It is very easy to find the internal opening through the fistula and the internal opening can be positioned more accurately. It is generally not easy to relapse after the operation, so the recurrence rate is very low.

Anal fistula incision and hanging thread surgery is generally suitable for high-position anal fistula. The fistula of high-position anal fistula passes above the external anal sphincter, so it is more difficult to find the internal opening through the fistula. The positioning of the internal opening is not very accurate, and it is easy to relapse after surgery.

After anal fistula surgery, patients are advised to rest in bed, but they are certainly not prohibited from getting out of bed and moving around. Because patients who undergo anal fistula surgery usually have deeper wounds and larger wounds, if they walk too much and rub the wound, firstly, the anus is prone to pain; secondly, the wound is prone to bleeding due to friction, so patients are advised to rest in bed more. However, you can get out of bed and move around appropriately to promote the healing of the wound. At the same time, for patients who have undergone anal fistula surgery, it is particularly important to maintain smooth bowel movements. Since they often stay in bed, their intestinal peristalsis is also slower, so you can walk appropriately, but it is very necessary to pay attention to rest. At the same time, maintaining smooth bowel movements can be beneficial to the healing of wounds.
