Can I eat soda tablets when I'm pregnant?

Pregnant women occupy an important position in a family, and the target of everyone's attention and concern is basically on them. However, misfortunes may happen at any time, and pregnant women will inevitably feel uncomfortable. The most common example is stomach acid. For pregnant women who need to stay away from medicines, this is undoubtedly the biggest test for themselves. Some people think of soda tablets. Let's answer for everyone whether pregnant women can take soda tablets.

Soda tablets are sodium bicarbonate, which is a drug for alkalizing urine and treating acidemia. Eating too much will make the body's pH value too alkaline, and too much will affect children. Generally, a small amount will not harm children.

Indications

(1) Treatment of metabolic acidosis. For the treatment of mild to moderate metabolic acidosis, oral administration is preferred. Severe metabolic acidosis should be treated with intravenous drip, such as severe kidney disease, circulatory failure, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, extracorporeal circulation, severe primary lactic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, etc.

(2) Alkalinize urine. Used for the prevention of uric acid kidney stones, reducing the nephrotoxicity of sulfa drugs, and preventing hemoglobin deposition in the renal tubules in acute hemolysis.

(3) As an antacid, it treats symptoms caused by excessive gastric acid.

(4) Intravenous infusion has a non-specific therapeutic effect on certain drug poisonings, such as poisoning by barbiturates, salicylates, and methanol. However, this product is contraindicated for gastric lavage in case of strong acid poisoning due to ingestion, because this product reacts with strong acid to produce a large amount of carbon dioxide, which can cause acute gastric dilatation or even gastric rupture.

Pharmacological Action

(1) Treatment of metabolic acidosis: This product increases the concentration of carbonate in plasma, neutralizes hydrogen ions, and thus corrects acidosis;

(2) Alkalinization of urine. As the concentration of carbonate in urine increases, the pH value rises, making it difficult for uric acid, sulfonamide drugs, and hemoglobin to form crystals or aggregate in urine;

(3) Antacid: oral administration can quickly neutralize or buffer gastric acid without directly affecting gastric acid secretion. Therefore, the pH in the stomach rises rapidly, relieving the symptoms caused by high stomach acid

Drug interactions

(1) When adrenocortical hormones (especially those with strong mineralocorticoid effects), adrenocorticotropic hormone, and androgens are used together, hypernatremia and edema are likely to occur.

(2) When used in combination with amphetamine and quinidine, the renal excretion of the latter two is reduced, which can easily lead to toxic effects.

(3) When used in combination with anticoagulants such as warfarin and M-cholesterase drugs, the absorption of the latter is reduced.

(4) When used in combination with calcium-containing drugs, milk and dairy products, it may cause milk-alkali syndrome.

(5) When used in combination with H2 receptor antagonists such as cimetidine and ranitidine, the absorption of the latter is reduced.

(6) When used in combination with potassium-excreting diuretics, the risk of hypochloremic alkali poisoning is increased.

(7) This product can alkaline the urine and affect the excretion of ephedrine by the kidneys. Therefore, the dose of ephedrine should be reduced when used together.

(8) Increased sodium load increases renal lithium excretion, so when used in combination with lithium preparations, the dosage of lithium preparations should be adjusted as appropriate.

(9) Alkalinized urine can inhibit the conversion of urotropine into formaldehyde, thereby inhibiting the therapeutic effect of the latter, so the combination of the two drugs is not recommended.

(10) This product can alkalinize urine and increase the renal excretion of salicylic acid preparations.

Can pregnant women take soda tablets? After reading the above explanation, I believe everyone has their own answer. Although soda tablets are very effective in treating discomfort such as stomach acid, and their impact on children and pregnant women is not too great, for pregnant women in extraordinary times, it is best to have less contact with them and adjust from other aspects.
