The latest contraceptive methods

Contraception is a measure that couples who do not want children must take. There are many methods of contraception, the most common of which are using condoms or birth control pills. Of course, with the continuous development of science and technology, some new contraceptive methods have emerged, such as contraceptive films, vaginal contraceptive sponges, medroxyprogesterone contraceptive injections, contraceptive vaginal rings, female contraceptive patches, etc. The following is a detailed introduction to these contraceptive methods.

1. Contraceptive film

This is a new contraceptive method designed specifically for women based on the structural characteristics of the female vagina. Like male condoms, it can only guarantee contraception once. If you want to have sexual intercourse again, you need to change to a new one. The method of use mainly depends on inserting it smoothly into the vagina and it cannot be kept in the vagina for more than 30 minutes.

In addition, when taking it out after sexual intercourse, do not rinse the vagina immediately, as this will reduce the contraceptive effect. You should wash it after a few minutes to prevent the residual components of the contraceptive film from being absorbed by the vagina and causing side effects.

2. Vaginal contraceptive sponge

The vaginal contraceptive sponge is 5.5cm in diameter and 2.5cm thick. Its contraceptive success rate is usually 84%. The concave part on one side can cover the cervical opening, and the ring-shaped belt on the other side can be easily pulled out of the vagina after sexual intercourse. If used properly, sexual intercourse can be performed multiple times within 24 hours.

However, women will feel a certain degree of pain when removing it, and may have skin allergies to the spermicide in it.

3. Medroxyprogesterone contraceptive injection

This contraceptive method has a long-term contraceptive effect, and the contraceptive effect can last up to 3 months after one use. It mainly works by increasing the thickness of cervical mucus, inhibiting the development of the endometrium and inhibiting ovulation. The method of use is: inject 150 mg once on the 2nd to 7th day of menstruation, once every 3 months. It is recommended that mothers start using it 4 weeks after delivery.

It should be noted that irregular bleeding and amenorrhea may occur during the initial use, but as the number of uses increases, irregular bleeding will decrease, but the number of amenorrhea will increase, and patients with liver and kidney diseases are prohibited from using it.

4. Contraceptive vaginal ring

The soft, transparent ring with an outer diameter of 5.4mm only needs to be placed once a month, with a success rate of 92%. Women can easily place it in the vagina by themselves, and no other contraceptive measures are needed afterwards. It can be removed after 3 weeks, and if necessary, a new one can be inserted in the following week.

After inserting the contraceptive ring, you should avoid taking a bath in a tub. Use contraceptive water to directly rinse the inside of the vagina. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the vulva to prevent infection. It may slip out of the vagina on its own and cause some dryness in the vagina.

5. Female contraceptive patch

It is about half the size of a business card. Its main function is to continuously release hormones, which enter the blood through the skin and blood vessels, thereby inhibiting ovulation and achieving a contraceptive effect. It can be applied to any part of the body, such as the buttocks, abdomen, outer side of the arms, and outer side of the shoulders. Post 1 piece on the first day of menstruation or the first Sunday when menstruation begins, and replace it on the same day of each week for 3 consecutive weeks.

Although it is easy to use, the patch is like super glue, which is very painful when peeling it off, and the probability of blood clots is 3 times higher than taking medication. Do not stick it on the chest.
