What are the reasons for weakened intestinal motility in parturients?

Many women will experience abdominal distension or constipation after giving birth, especially if they do not want to eat, which will directly affect their physical recovery and health after giving birth. When this happens, you should pay attention to it, as it shows that the gastrointestinal function of the woman is abnormal, mainly caused by weakened intestinal motility. So what is the reason for weakened intestinal motility in postpartum women? Let’s take a look below.

The main reasons for intestinal peristalsis weight loss are as follows:

(1) In the first few days after delivery, the mother is tired and weak, and spends most of her time in bed resting. She has very little physical activity, which slows down her intestinal motility and reduces intestinal tension. The intestinal contents stay in the intestines for too long, and water is overabsorbed, causing constipation.

(2) Due to excessive stretching during pregnancy and childbirth, the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor tissues relax, resulting in weakened bowel movement force.

(3) Due to perineal lacerations caused during childbirth or swelling and pain in the perineal wound, the patient is afraid to force bowel movements, which inhibits the reverse direction of defecation and prolongs the time that stool stays in the intestines.

(4) Improper diet. The cellulose in food can stimulate intestinal peristalsis. Therefore, a diet with too little cellulose (such as a monotonous diet of eggs and rice) can slow down intestinal peristalsis and cause constipation and bloating.

The above are the reasons why parturients experience weakened intestinal motility. The above reasons are not accidental. Parturients generally spend more time in bed resting due to physical weakness after giving birth, and their bodies cannot get normal activities, which leads to such a situation. It is recommended that parturients, if their bodies allow, should try to carry out as many necessary activities as possible, such as getting out of bed and walking around appropriately.
