What causes coccyx pain during pregnancy?

I believe that many pregnant women or people who have already given birth can understand that it is very easy to feel coccyx pain during pregnancy, which makes them very troubled and they will also worry about whether their health will be affected. After all, they dare not move around when they have coccyx pain, which will also bring many inconveniences to the lives of pregnant women. They must figure out what is causing the coccyx pain during pregnancy before they can find a way to solve the problem.

The human pelvis is composed of the sacrum, coccyx and left and right hip bones (including ilium, pubis and ischium). At the back of the pelvis, the ear-shaped articular surfaces of the hip bones on both sides are connected to the articular surfaces of the sacrum on both sides, forming the sacroiliac joints. In the front, the left and right pubic bones embrace each other to form the front half of the pelvis. The two pubic bones are connected by a fibrous cartilage plate to form the pubic symphysis, which is surrounded by tough ligaments for protection, making the two pubic bones tightly combined together with a very small cavity that is not easy to move. It is estimated that the pubic symphysis is not likely to separate or dislocate even if it is subjected to a traction force of 328 kg.

However, when a woman becomes pregnant, things change. When the pregnancy is 7-10 weeks, the pregnant woman's ovaries secrete a substance called "relaxin", which gradually increases with the increase of pregnancy period. Relaxin can relax the fibrous cartilage and ligaments of the sacroiliac joints and pubic symphysis, and widen the pubic space to accommodate the growing fetus in the uterus. In the late pregnancy, the gap in the middle of the pubic symphysis may even widen to 0.3-0.4 cm to prepare for the smooth delivery of the fetal head during delivery.

Most pregnant women will be safe and sound with the above-mentioned changes in the pubic symphysis. Only a few will experience local pain, which generally does not affect normal work and life. As long as they pay attention to avoid heavy physical labor and long-term walking, no treatment is required. Pulling pain will only occur when the pubic bones are separated too much, especially when walking or walking upstairs. Because the body's center of gravity is biased to one side, the pubic bones are dislocated, pulling the fibrous cartilage and ligaments between the pubic bones, which is more likely to cause pain. Those with severe symptoms may even suffer from ligament rupture and edema, making them unable to move.

Through the above introduction, everyone has a clear idea of what causes coccyx pain during pregnancy. During pregnancy, the burden on the whole body of pregnant women is increased, which is very tiring in itself. If the usual conditioning measures are not in place, or if you always sit, the load on the coccyx will also increase. It can be seen that you should not always sit during pregnancy, and you should not be too tired.
