Is it normal to have dark brown vaginal discharge before menstruation?

Usually, as the name suggests, our female leucorrhea is a kind of white vaginal discharge. Under normal circumstances, the amount is small, but some female compatriots with gynecological diseases will have an increased amount of leucorrhea when they have severe gynecological inflammation. Some newborn baby girls will have some white secretions, but why does the color of leucorrhea turn dark brown before menstruation? Let me tell you in detail below.

Many girls experience increased vaginal discharge and general fatigue before their menstrual period. This is not a disease, but a normal phenomenon caused by the influence of estrogen. After entering puberty, the ovarian function tends to mature. Under the influence of ovarian endocrine, the vaginal epithelial cells are regularly regenerated and shed, and a small amount of fluid can exude from the vaginal wall. The mucous glands of the cervix also change periodically under the influence of ovarian endocrine secretion and secrete white mucus. These epithelial cells, mucus, and liquid mix together and flow out of the vagina as "leucorrhea". Normal leucorrhea is egg white-like, transparent and odorless. After puberty, due to the stimulation of ovarian endocrine, the epithelial cells of the vaginal mucosa are rich in animal starch. Due to the action of vaginal bacteria, the animal starch is broken down into lactic acid to keep the vagina acidic and prevent the growth and reproduction of pathogenic bacteria.

Before menstruation, the pelvic cavity becomes congested and the blood flow in the cervix and vagina increases, so more leucorrhea is secreted than usual. It may be a little pink when menstruation is approaching, and then gradually turns into blood, which is menstruation. After the menstruation is over, the blood flow in the uterus and vagina returns to normal and the leucorrhea also decreases. In addition, some people also have more leucorrhea when they are tired or ovulating, which is normal. If the color of the leucorrhea turns yellow, becomes pus-like, has a foul odor, and is accompanied by abnormal leucorrhea phenomena such as vulvar itching, this is an abnormal situation and you need to see a doctor.

Normal leucorrhea is clear, white and transparent, but the leucorrhea before menstruation is a little pink. If the leucorrhea before menstruation is dark brown, then you should wait three days after the menstruation is over to go to the hospital to see if it is a gynecological disease. However, girls' gynecological diseases are closely related to their own hygiene. You should wash frequently every day to keep the perineum clean and hygienic, and change your underwear every day, so that you will not get gynecological diseases.
