What are the symptoms of mild mastitis?

Postpartum mothers are the group most likely to suffer from mastitis. Usually, there will be obvious symptoms in the early stages of the disease. However, due to insufficient understanding of the disease, many women do not pay timely attention to it. In order to avoid further aggravation of the patient's symptoms, the editor will now tell you about some of the clinical reactions that the disease may cause in the mild stage.

1. Suppurative mastitis: Suppurative mastitis is mostly caused by infection of staphylococci or streptococci through ruptured nipples. As mentioned earlier, if milk stasis after delivery is not emptied in time, it can easily cause infection and lead to postpartum mastitis. After bacteria invade the mammary ducts, they continue to invade the parenchyma, which can cause various types of suppurative inflammation. The initial symptoms of acute simple mastitis are mainly breast pain, local high skin temperature, tenderness, nodules with unclear boundaries, and tenderness. It may also be accompanied by symptoms of general weakness such as chills, high fever, headache, weakness, rapid pulse, and discomfort such as swollen axillary lymph nodes.

2. Congestive mastitis: occurs in the early postpartum period (usually about 1 week after delivery). Because first-time mothers lack experience in breastfeeding, it is easy for milk to stagnate and not be emptied on time. Postpartum mastitis patients feel varying degrees of pain and swelling in both breasts and have a moderate fever (around 38.5°C). Examination of the breasts reveals fullness, a slightly reddish surface (congestion), and tenderness, but the symptoms usually disappear after the milk is expressed, so it is generally not considered to be true mastitis. However, if not treated in time, or if the nipple is small and is broken by the newborn's strong sucking, the retained milk and sweat may be contaminated by purulent bacteria, which can easily lead to symptoms of postpartum mastitis. Therefore, excess milk secretion must be drained out and nipples must be kept clean.

Here I have described in detail the symptoms of different types of mild mastitis. I hope that female friends can take a closer look. When they find such adverse reactions in their breasts, they should be alert in time and go to the gynecological clinic for breast examination so that they can receive treatment as soon as possible.
