Tips for treating painful nipple cracks

Mothers with chapped nipples are very worried about breastfeeding because it is very painful to breastfeed. I believe that many mothers who exclusively breastfeed have encountered this situation: the baby is on one side, crying while drinking milk, and the mother has dry nipples and is feeding the baby while enduring the pain.

How do cracked nipples occur?

The skin of the nipple is too thin, so it is very sensitive, and it is easier to be damaged and cracked. After the crack, the pain will be very obvious, so mothers should usually take good care of this part, otherwise they will suffer.

There are several reasons that cause cracked nipples:

1. The mother’s breast milk is not enough

Some mothers do not have enough breast milk, so the baby can only maintain it by constantly drinking milk, but the longer the milk drinking time, the more likely the nipples will crack. Because the skin of the nipple is indeed too thin, it cannot withstand long-term sucking.

2. Wrong breastfeeding posture

Some new mothers have no experience, so when breastfeeding, they simply don't know the correct posture. The breastfeeding posture is incorrect. The baby cannot hold the entire nipple in his mouth. If he only holds part of the nipple, it is easy to cause cracks in the skin there.

3. Nipple hypoplasia

Some women have problems such as inverted nipples, which makes it more difficult for babies to breastfeed because it takes a lot of strength and it is easy to cause nipple cracking.

4. The baby is bitten

Some babies like to bite things, especially those who have already grown teeth, and their nipples may be bitten accidentally.

5. Excessive cleaning by the mother

I don't know how many mothers are like this. I always feel a little bit of psychological cleanliness. The place where the baby drinks milk every day feels very dirty, so I clean it frequently. If the temperature is too high and I clean it too much, I will be asking for trouble.

When the nipples are cracked, if the mother breastfeeds the baby, the pain is really excruciating, and sometimes there will be bleeding, but she can't bear to stop the baby from eating, for fear of starving the baby.
