Is it better to sweat more or less after childbirth?

In China, we attach great importance to the confinement period for our female friends. This is related to the future health status of female friends. During the delivery period, female friends are generally not allowed to get wet, and their facial care is also very particular. Try not to let your female friends have fever or cold. Then let's discuss together: How much or how little sweating is good after childbirth?

Is it better to sweat a lot or less after childbirth?

Sweating during confinement is cold sweat. Drinking too much milk-inducing soup will also cause sweating. If your body is weak and then you take a lot of supplements, you will sweat all the time. If you can't see the wind, you have caught a cold.

From a medical point of view, postpartum sweating is mostly a normal physiological adjustment state, which is actually caused by the metabolic activities of the pregnant mother. We know that during pregnancy, the circulatory blood flow of pregnant women is higher than that before pregnancy, mainly to meet the development needs of the fetus. At the same time, with the increase of female hormones and the acceleration of metabolism and oxidative phosphorylation, a large amount of water and acetate are retained to meet the needs of the mother during pregnancy. After the birth of the child, the metabolic and endocrine activities of the pregnant woman decrease significantly. The body no longer needs so much circulatory blood flow. Within 2-3 weeks after delivery, the pregnant woman will return to the non-pregnancy state, and the residual water is unnecessary. Therefore, the body will activate regulatory mechanisms to eliminate the excess capacity.

The body metabolizes water in the form of sweat and can be discharged from the urethra through the urogenital system. Therefore, during the confinement period of pregnant women, not only does urination increase, but the secretion of sebaceous glands in the skin is also more active, and they sweat more, especially when sleeping and waking up. But after a period of time, when the unnecessary water in the body is metabolized, this kind of sweating condition will gradually ease. Generally, it will gradually improve on its own about a week after giving birth.

Avoid brushing teeth during confinement

Many older generations have always advised women not to brush their teeth for a month during the confinement period, otherwise "one tooth will be lost for each baby born." This essentially reflects the harm of not paying attention to oral and dental hygiene during pregnancy and childbirth. Many people incorrectly understand that pregnant women should not brush their teeth, which is also the reason for tooth loss during pregnancy. Folk customs believe that brushing teeth during pregnancy will cause toothache, which is exactly the opposite of the principle of medical research. In fact, if you do not brush your teeth, stains cannot be removed in time, which will increase the occurrence of dental diseases such as caries and periodontitis and cause toothache.

During pregnancy, women may have gingival hematoma, edema, and bleeding easily due to endocrine changes or insufficient vitamin C intake, especially when brushing their teeth. In addition, during pregnancy, the minerals of teeth are usually not fully replenished, and the strength of teeth is poor. This situation is not good for teeth. If you don't pay attention to oral health, the bacteria in the mouth will increase. Under the action of many bacteria, the glycogen in the food residues will ferment and produce acid, causing tooth decalcification and tooth decay. It is easy to come into contact with cold water and catch a cold during the confinement.

There are also some maternity companies from Taiwan that claim that women cannot drink water after giving birth, as drinking water will cause adverse effects such as sagging internal organs, but there is no basis for this in the theory of combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine. In fact, it is not advisable to drink too much water in the first two weeks after giving birth. Drinking too much water will cause edema and affect postpartum recovery.
