How to take Chinese medicine for cough in pregnant women

Pregnant women are a special group because their bodies are relatively weak, but they cannot take many medicines. Therefore, if there are pregnant women around you, you must pay more attention. So what types of Chinese medicine can pregnant women take for cough? In fact, it is not difficult to answer this question. If you are not sure, you must consult a doctor in a local regular hospital. Next, let us learn about taking Chinese medicine for pregnant women with cough.

Itchy throat and cough

Generally, no special treatment is needed, just drink plenty of water and rest, unless there is bacterial inflammation in the throat, in which case antibiotics should be used.

Coughing is a protective respiratory reflex. It is a physiological reflex caused by impulses transmitted to the cough center in the medulla oblongata after the respiratory tract is stimulated (such as inflammation, foreign body). It can expel respiratory secretions or foreign body and protect the cleanliness and patency of the respiratory tract. Therefore, coughing is generally a beneficial action and is sometimes seen in healthy people. In general, mild and infrequent coughs can be relieved naturally by simply expelling phlegm or foreign objects, without the need for cough suppressants. However, for those severe dry coughs without sputum, or too frequent severe coughs with sputum, it will not only increase the patient's pain, affect rest and sleep, increase physical exertion, but may even promote the development of the disease and cause other complications. At this time, the disadvantages outweigh the benefits. Therefore, antitussive drugs should be used appropriately to relieve cough.

Principles of application of antitussive drugs

(1) A clear diagnosis should be made to determine the cause of the cough and appropriate treatment measures should be taken. First, control the infection, take oral anti-infection drugs, and eliminate inflammation; or fight allergens and cooperate with symptomatic treatment to make cough and expectorant drugs have a good effect.

(2) The treatment of common cough should focus on expectoration, and it is not advisable to use only antitussive drugs. Antitussive drugs should only be used for a short time when there are frequent and severe coughs caused by irritation of the pleura, pericardium, etc., or when there are frequent irritating dry coughs with little sputum, which affects the patient's rest and sleep, and to prevent complications caused by severe coughing (such as pulmonary vascular rupture, emphysema, bronchiectasis, hemoptysis). For those with cough accompanied by excessive sputum, it should be used in combination with expectorants (such as ammonium chloride, bromhexine, and acetylcysteine) to facilitate the discharge of sputum and enhance the antitussive effect.

(3) For wet coughs with a lot of sputum, such as lung abscess, medication should be used with caution to prevent sputum from being blocked and retained in the respiratory tract or aggravating the infection.

(4) For coughs that last for more than one week and are accompanied by recurrent or persistent coughs with fever, rash, asthma, and lung abscess, you should go to the hospital for a clear diagnosis or consult a doctor in time.

(5) In addition to taking medication, you should also pay attention to rest, keep warm, avoid smoking, and avoid eating irritating foods. Tranquilizers or sedatives can be used for those who have poor sleep or are irritable.

When taking medicine for a cold, it is best to distinguish whether it is a heat-related cold or a wind-cold cold. For cough caused by a wind-heat cold, you can take (Sangju Cold Tablets) and Vitamin C Yinqiao Tablets; you can also take (Yinqiao Jiedu Pills) and (Juhong Pills). You can take (Quick-Acting Cold Capsules) and (Compound Licorice Tablets) for colds caused by wind and cold. At the same time, drink more water, which can dilute phlegm, detoxify and relieve cough symptoms.

The above introduces Chinese medicine for pregnant women with cough. We can see that there are relatively few Chinese medicines that meet this condition, and there are many taboos. Therefore, if you are a pregnant woman and accidentally catch a cold, you must seek help from a doctor and don’t eat indiscriminately, otherwise it will bring many bad consequences, and even worse, it will affect the baby in your belly.
