What is vulvar atrophy?

When female friends reach a certain age, they will experience vulvar atrophy. We divide vulvar atrophy into three types according to its severity: stage I atrophy, stage II atrophy, and stage III atrophy. In the case of stage I atrophy, the symptoms are not very obvious. However, in the case of stage II or stage III atrophy, the shape of the female friends' private parts will change significantly.

Vulvar atrophy is a type of disease in which the shape of the private parts changes greatly and has a great harmful impact on the patient. The private skin becomes dry and soft, the elasticity decreases, and the clitoris and labia majora and minora shrink. If the shrinkage is more serious, the vagina will also shrink, causing pain during sexual intercourse and even difficulty in sexual life, which is extremely harmful to women's body and mind. The key symptoms are as follows:

Stage I atrophy: Clinical symptoms are not obvious. Some patients have mild itching, no milky white discoloration, and atrophy of the private parts that is not easily detected by the naked eye.

Stage II atrophy: The typical symptom is slight visible atrophy of the private parts, usually starting from the labia majora, labia majora, and clitoris. The labia majora are larger, the elasticity of the labia minora is reduced, the surface wrinkles are reduced or absent, and the vulvar itching is relatively mild. Due to shrinkage, there may be dryness of the vulva, discomfort during sexual intercourse, etc. The private skin part becomes hypopigmented and appears in spots or lumps.

Stage III Retraction Type: The labia majora in the private parts are flat, the labia minora recede, and the clitoris is retracted or adhered. The urethral opening is shrunken, and in severe cases, urinary incontinence occurs. The vaginal opening is shrunken, making sexual life difficult for the couple. Some patients develop leukoplakia and atrophy of the anus, resulting in a lack of wrinkles in the skin around the anus and reduced elasticity, leading to anal fissures during defecation. About 50% of patients experience large-scale hypopigmentation of the private skin.
