What causes pain on the left side of the uterus?

The uterus is a relatively important organ in the female body, and it is also the female reproductive organ. However, many gynecological diseases can directly cause uterine pain. For example, uterine inflammation or dysmenorrhea can cause varying degrees of uterine pain. Due to our lack of understanding of the disease, we sometimes can't even tell whether it is uterine pain or abdominal pain. The uterus is divided into left and right sides. Let's understand what causes pain on the left side of the uterus.

The uterus is the organ that produces menstruation and nurtures the fetus. It is located in the center of the pelvic cavity, between the bladder and the rectum. The size of the uterus is related to age and fertility. For nulliparous women, it is approximately 7.5 cm long, 5 cm wide, and 3 cm thick. The uterus can be divided into three parts: the fundus, the body, and the neck. The uterine cavity is an inverted triangle, about 6 cm deep, with the two upper corners being the "uterine horns" that lead to the fallopian tubes. The narrow lower end is called the "isthmus", which is about 1 cm long. The isthmus gradually expands during pregnancy and forms the lower uterine segment at the time of delivery. The ratio of the uterine body to the cervix varies with age, being 1:2 in infancy, 1:1 in adolescence, and 2:1 during the reproductive period. The uterus is normally slightly curved forward, with the anterior wall lying prone on the bladder and almost at right angles to the vagina. Its position may change with the degree of fullness of the bladder and rectum. The uterine wall is composed of three layers from outside to inside: serosa, muscle layer and mucosa (i.e. endometrium).

What causes pain on the left side of the uterus?

1. Uterine pain caused by menstruation: It is a normal physiological phenomenon for women to experience lower abdominal pain and general discomfort during menstruation. If the pain is severe, it is dysmenorrhea. Most uterine pain that occurs during adolescence is primary dysmenorrhea, which can heal on its own and there is no need to worry. However, dysmenorrhea that occurs after menstruation is mainly caused by certain diseases and should be treated as soon as possible. Painkillers should not be used to solve the problem.

2. Uterine pain caused by gynecological diseases: such as endometriosis, which mainly forms lumps near the ovaries, uterus, and rectum, aggravating abdominal pain before and during menstruation.

3. Uterine pain caused by inflammation: It is more common in adnexitis and pelvic inflammatory disease, usually occurring in women of childbearing age. The pain occurs on one or both sides, accompanied by an increase in leucorrhea. Chronic cases often present with dull pain, back pain or a feeling of heaviness; acute cases present with abdominal pain that is resistant to pressure and is accompanied by fever.

4. Uterine pain caused by uterine cancer: If the cancer compresses the nerves in the pelvic cavity, it will cause pain in the lower abdomen, lower back or thighs. In addition, pain during sexual intercourse is also one of the characteristics of uterine pain.

In normal times, many people always think that they are healthy, and they always blindly take medicine to relieve the symptoms when there is a problem with their body. Sometimes it even delays the treatment of the disease. The above is an introduction to what causes pain on the left side of the uterus. After understanding it, we know that there are many reasons for uterine pain. If such symptoms occur, you must go to the hospital for examination and take the right medicine. This is a manifestation of being responsible for your own health.
