Anal tear during vaginal delivery

Anal tear during vaginal delivery

Some women tear their anuses when they choose to have a vaginal birth. Anal tears can cause pain to women and continue to affect their bowel movements. Therefore, women who choose natural childbirth with anal tears hope to have their anal tears repaired as soon as possible. So, can anal tears be repaired if you choose natural childbirth?

Generally, if a vaginal delivery is chosen, most of the vaginal or perineal lacerations are 1st to 2nd degree. 1st degree refers to simple, shallow damage to the skin and mucous membranes, 2nd degree is a laceration of the mucosa and part of the muscle layer. If there is a tear to the anus or the levator ani muscle has been damaged, this is a moderate to severe 3rd degree laceration, which should not be reached under normal circumstances.

What causes anal tearing? It may be due to premature delivery, poor elasticity of the perineum, or the fetus is too large, or the vaginal delivery professional did not protect the perineum well, which may cause tearing of the anus. If this kind of serious tear occurs, the perineum will be sutured. After the suture, you should avoid eating and have a bowel movement for about a week to prevent it from being injured again or damaging the duodenum.

First-degree tear: can be repaired in about 7 days after treatment

If the anal tear is a first-degree tear during a natural birth, the wound is relatively small and generally causes slight discomfort to the woman. After delivery, the pregnant woman generally requires surgical suture, which can allow the muscle tissue to heal quickly and then repair.

Second level tear: can be repaired in about 10 days after treatment

If the anus is a second-degree tear, it will cause great pain to women. It will generally heal in 10 days after surgery. If the tear is longer and deeper, it will take a longer time to heal.

Grade III tear: can be repaired in about 15-25 days after treatment

Different from primary and secondary tears, they are usually caused by an oversized fetus, rapid delivery, or widening of the vaginal incision. If a third-degree tear is not surgically closed quickly and skillfully, it can lead to further complications due to the passage of stool from the intestine into the wound and vagina, causing infection and fecal incontinence.

Grade 3 tears are likely to cause pain for 3 weeks or longer due to deep damage to muscle tissue. Analgesics are needed to relieve pain.
