34 weeks amniotic fluid index problem description

34 weeks amniotic fluid index problem description

For so-called expectant mothers, the issue of amniotic fluid is still an issue that we need to pay attention to and understand, especially when it is more than a month before the due date. When doing gynecological examinations, the amniotic fluid index is also an important reference because it is an important element of the fetal survival and growth environment. Below we will explain this issue, including the amniotic fluid index at 34 weeks of pregnancy, which is 8 months later.

We know that before the embryo begins to form, there must be amniotic fluid to support the thick uterine wall and provide the fetus with the free space needed for growth and development. Its functions also include: acting as a buffer when the uterus is subjected to external impact, maintaining a stable temperature, analyzing components to understand the health and maturity of the fetus, etc., and during labor pains, the pressure transmitted by the water bag can also help dilate the cervix.

During normal pregnancy, the amount of amniotic fluid ranges from 500 to 2000 ml. It exists in the amniotic cavity, surrounds the fetus, and is echo-free. After 34 weeks of pregnancy, granular echoes or thin short light bands exist in the amniotic fluid. When measuring, the maximum depth of amniotic fluid can be measured, or the depths of amniotic fluid in four quadrants can be added together to obtain the amniotic fluid index. The normal range of the depth of the amniotic fluid pool is 3.0 to 8.0 cm.

Amniotic fluid protects the fetus from external impacts, participates in the fetal metabolism, protects the mother, and reduces discomfort caused by fetal movement. During a normal pregnancy, the amount of amniotic fluid gradually increases with the gestational age, generally reaching about 1000 ml at 37 weeks of pregnancy and about 800 ml at full term.

Too much or too little amniotic fluid is an abnormal condition and requires the attention of expectant mothers.

Of course, the amount of amniotic fluid is different for each person. Generally speaking, as long as it is within a reasonable range, it is normal. Of course, if it is too much or too little, we must pay attention to it, such as ruling out the problem of diabetes, matching the blood types of mother and child, whether there are chromosomal abnormalities, etc. Early detection and timely processing and treatment under the doctor's plan.
