Understand the precautions for the first prenatal check-up

Speaking of prenatal check-ups, I think everyone should know that when a woman is pregnant, she must go for a prenatal check-up. Prenatal check-ups are the only way to understand the growth status of the fetus. It can effectively prevent fetal malformation or other abnormalities, dislocation, etc., improve dislocation or poor growth conditions, and prevent deformed babies as soon as possible to avoid bringing burden to the family and society after the baby is born. Now let’s take a look at what we should pay attention to during the first prenatal check-up?

1. Before the first check-up, you should understand the health status of your immediate family members and your spouse’s family members.

If possible, your lover must check with you, especially the first time. He should answer questions about his past health conditions and whether there is a family history of genetic diseases. He can also consult and understand many issues related to pregnancy, give you the best understanding and help throughout the pregnancy, and share the joy that pregnancy brings.

2. Empty your bladder before measuring uterine height:

Measuring the height of the uterus and the size of the abdominal circumference is something that the doctor must do during every examination. The uterine height is measured after the pregnant woman has emptied her bladder and is in a supine position. The distance from the midpoint of the upper edge of the pubic symphysis to the highest point of the fundus of the uterus is measured. It reflects the longitudinal diameter of the uterus and is measured in centimeters. The abdominal circumference is the length around the abdomen through the navel, also measured in centimeters, which can reflect the transverse diameter and anterior-posterior diameter of the uterus. Therefore, uterine height and abdominal circumference can indirectly reflect the size of the uterus. The bladder is in front of the uterus. If the bladder is full, it will raise the height of the uterus and affect the accuracy of the measurement. Therefore, you must empty your bladder before measuring uterine height.

3. Measure your weight while wearing clothes of equal weight as much as possible:

The weight gain of pregnant women mainly comes from three aspects, the most important of which is the fetus; the second is from the structures that maintain and support the growth of the fetus, such as increased blood volume, amniotic fluid, placenta, uterus, breast tissue, etc. In addition, it also comes from the body's stored fat tissue. It is abnormal to gain too much or too little weight during pregnancy. The former may be harmful to the pregnant woman and may cause pregnancy complications or difficult labor, while the latter may cause malnutrition in the pregnant woman, fetal growth retardation, or even premature birth. Therefore, it is very important to measure weight correctly. Only when wearing clothes of the same weight can the weight gain be objectively reflected so that doctors can make correct judgments and treatments.

4. Measure blood pressure after sitting quietly for half an hour:

Increased blood pressure is one of the manifestations of gestational hypertension. Only by measuring blood pressure correctly, that is, measuring blood pressure half an hour after sitting quietly after activity, can we objectively reflect the true situation of blood pressure, so as to detect and treat mild gestational hypertension early and recover as soon as possible.

5. For urine testing, midstream urine should be collected:

Urine testing is mainly to check whether there is protein, red blood cells and white blood cells in the urine. The presence of protein in the urine indicates that an abnormal condition has occurred. The female urethral opening and vaginal opening are relatively close. If you are not careful, the urine will often be contaminated by leucorrhea and cannot truly reflect the condition of the urine, so you must retain midstream urine. When collecting urine, first discard the first half of the urine and keep the clean urine in the middle for testing. This way, the test results will be more accurate.
