Four Seasons Pharmacist says: Stay away from "air-conditioning disease" and use "medicine" to maintain health

In the hot summer, air conditioners keep us away from the heat waves and allow us to enjoy a cool and comfortable environment, becoming an indispensable cooling "artifact" in our lives. However, it also brings with it a health problem called "air conditioning disease". So, how can we stay away from the troubles of air conditioning disease and protect our health while enjoying the coolness?

What are the symptoms of discomfort?

Air-conditioning disease is a series of health problems caused by long-term exposure to air-conditioned environment and large temperature difference between the body and the outside world. It is currently called air-conditioning syndrome. Common symptoms include headache, dry throat, sore throat, nasal congestion, cough, fatigue, etc. In addition, due to long-term exposure to air-conditioned rooms with large temperature difference between the outside and the outside, the body's immunity will decrease, which is easy to cause colds, pharyngitis and other diseases.

(1) Prolonged exposure to an overcooled air-conditioned room

This leads to imbalance in body temperature regulation and decreased immunity.

(2) Excessive temperature difference

Frequently entering and exiting air-conditioned rooms with large temperature differences will cause the body to be unable to adapt to the rapid temperature changes and can easily lead to colds, pharyngitis and other diseases.

(3) Drying of air-conditioned rooms

The air in an air-conditioned room is dry, which can easily cause symptoms such as dry throat and cough, and aggravate respiratory discomfort.

(4) Poor air quality

The air in the air-conditioned room is not circulating, and harmful gases cannot be discharged, which can easily cause respiratory diseases.

(5) Directly blow cold air

The air outlet of the air conditioner blows directly towards the body, which may cause local muscles to become cold, leading to muscle spasms and pain.

How to prevent symptoms caused by air-conditioning disease?

(1) Appropriate cooling

The air conditioning temperature should not be too low. The most suitable temperature is 24℃~28℃, and the humidity should be kept between 40%~70%.

(2) Regular ventilation

Open the windows for ventilation from time to time to allow fresh air to circulate, which will help expel harmful gases from the room.

(3) Dress appropriately

In an air-conditioned room, add appropriate clothing to avoid direct exposure to cold air.

(4) Strengthen exercise

Proper exercise can enhance the body's immunity and reduce the occurrence of colds.

(5) Replenish water

Air-conditioned rooms are dry, so drink more water to maintain your body's water balance.

How to use medication to treat symptoms of air-conditioning disease?

(1) Chills, discomfort, fatigue and weakness

Drug treatment: You can consider using Chinese medicine, such as Huoxiang Zhengqi oral liquid, to help dispel the cold in the body and restore physical strength.

(2) Muscle and joint pain

Medication: Use antipyretics, such as ibuprofen, to relieve pain and lower body temperature.

(2) Headache

Drug treatment: Pain relievers such as acetaminophen can be used to relieve symptoms.

(3) Cough and sputum symptoms

Medical treatment: Use expectorants such as ambroxol or bromhexine to help clear respiratory secretions.

(4) Nasal congestion and runny nose

Medical treatment: Air conditioning systems may accumulate dust, bacteria, and mold, which are dispersed into the air as the air conditioner is running, and may cause allergic reactions leading to nasal congestion and runny nose. Antihistamines such as loratadine or topical nasal spray azastatin nasal spray can relieve allergy symptoms.

(5) Seek medical attention promptly

When multiple symptoms of air-conditioning disease appear, do not use a combination of medications on your own. Seek medical attention promptly to avoid worsening of the condition.

(6) Adjust your lifestyle

Use air conditioning reasonably, pay attention to the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor areas, and avoid frequently entering and exiting air-conditioned rooms.

(7) Maintain good hygiene

Wash your hands frequently and keep the room clean to reduce the spread of germs.

(8) Suitable temperature

It is recommended that the air conditioning temperature be set between 24℃ and 26℃ during the day. At night, due to the slowdown of human metabolism, the perception of temperature may change. You can adjust it up by 1℃ to 2℃ to maintain comfort.
