Stay up late every day? Here are some tips to effectively relieve eye fatigue!

Do you always feel like you don’t get enough rest?

I was lying down and playing with my phone, but I was getting more and more tired.

I slept all night, but I still feel sleepy.

Not to mention staying up late, using your brain, and using your eyes.

Fatigue is hard to eliminate

When your brain and eyes are tired,

How can we rest efficiently?

Many people think that rest means stopping working and letting the body rest, so they think a good night's sleep can solve all problems, or they relax in other ways such as playing games. But this does not mean that the brain and eyes stop working. On the contrary, they may be working all the time.

In fact, the feeling of fatigue itself is a brain phenomenon. When the brain feels tired, it will immediately convey the message of "tiredness" to the body, causing the body to send out a signal of fatigue. Therefore, when our body is exhausted, the brain is often already exhausted.

Zhu Lina, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that staying up late and using the eyes for a long time have become the norm. Basically, everyone's eyes are overloaded every day, and our ciliary muscles are often in a "tight" state. The ciliary muscles are mainly responsible for adjusting the eyes to see near or far, but because of eye habits, our ciliary muscles are often in a contracted state. After a long time, the eyes are prone to soreness and fatigue. This is more obvious for people who already have myopia, astigmatism, strabismus and other problems.

In addition to refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism), dry eyes or dry eye syndrome can also easily cause visual fatigue. Of course, too much light or too dark, staying up late, and working with high-intensity eyes can all lead to excessive eye fatigue.

How to relieve eyestrain?

1. Your eyes also need a rest. Try to reduce the time you use electronic devices such as computers and mobile phones. Avoid staring at electronic devices for long periods of time. Look into the distance after a while, and ensure adequate sleep.

2. Blink consciously and do more blinking exercises. Blinking can make the eyes secrete tears, keep the eyes moist, and prevent dry and itchy eyes. Close your eyes lightly for 2 seconds, close your eyes tightly for 2 seconds, and open your eyes for another 2 seconds. Do this for 1 minute each time and 10 times a day.

3. Adjust your eye habits and indoor lighting, reduce the wearing time of contact lenses, ensure that you read in a place with sufficient and soft lighting, and avoid playing with your phone with the lights off. Generally, the brightness of electronic screens should be about 2-3 times that of the surrounding light. At the same time, avoid light sources from above your head. When working or studying at night, it is recommended to use dual lighting, that is, turn on both the ceiling light and the desk lamp.

4. Apply hot compress appropriately. Hot compress can promote blood circulation in the eyes and help improve the function of the meibomian glands. You can use a hot towel or steam eye mask at about 40℃ to apply hot compress to your eyes in the morning and evening, once a day, for 15-20 minutes each time.

5. Use eye drops as directed by your doctor. Eye drops can quickly relieve dry eyes and replenish moisture in the eyes, but if used for a long time, you need to pay attention to whether they contain preservatives. Use artificial tears without preservatives as directed by your doctor.
